Last week we shared this secret little cake “recipe” with you, but if you didn’t already order your cake, it’s probably too late and now you’re probably going to have to bust out your baking skills. Let this be the cake you make! It just takes a few simple ingredients and will taste divine with some bubbly and your sweetie next to you.

What you’ll need:

7 ounces of your fave dark chocolate
7 ounces unsalted butter cut into ½-inch cubes
1 1/3 cup granulated sugar
5 large eggs
1 Tbs unbleached all-purpose flour

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees, and butter an 8-inch round cake pan. Line the base of the pan with parchment, and butter the parchment too.

Finely chop the chocolate and melt it gently with the butter in a double boiler or in the microwave, stirring every few minutes to combine. Add your sugar to the chocolate/butter mixture, stir well, and set aside to cool. Add eggs one by one, stirring well after each one, then add flour. The batter should look smooth.

Pour batter into your buttered cake pan and bake for 25 minutes, or until the center of the cake looks set and the top is shiny and a bit crackly-looking. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes; then carefully turn the cake over out of the pan so the crackly side is facing up. Allow to cool. Don’t worry if the cake deflates as it cools.

We sprinkled ours with powdered sugar, but you can serve with ice cream or whip cream.

Have a fabulous Valentine’s Day lovlies!
