A beautiful and intimate camp wedding on Cumberland Island

October 3, 2022

Adrienne + Sloan’s Cumberland Island wedding in Georgia is so special for a few reasons: First, the couple tied the knot in the same spot that our art teacher bride had dreamed of getting married since she visited as a little girl. Second, she enlisted her childhood best friend, Skylar Caitlin of Chancey Charm help her plan and design the whole thing. What’s more, she even worked with some of her students on the creative elements, such as calligraphy and sweets, as you’ll see throughout. Haint Blue Collective was behind photography and paper goods of this intimate, 28-guest micro wedding.

Skylar explains, The bride (my childhood best friend) decided while on a trip to Cumberland as a kid that she wanted to get married there. When her dad told her he thought they only let Kennedys get married on Cumberland, she declared “Well, I’ll just have to marry a Kennedy then.” Two decades later, her dream wedding came true, no Kennedy required. They worked for months to work with park rangers, source durable tabletop materials, and logistically plan out the entire weekend. Luckily, while she didn’t marry a Kennedy, Sloan is a charming supply chain manager who helped to balance her creative ideas.

It was a rainy morning, but the couple had traveled to Cumberland ahead of the wedding to bury their bourbon and ensure a rain-free wedding day. The groom dug up the bourbon the morning of, to pass around to the entire 28-person party and ensure everyone got a sip to “break the curse”. Sure enough, just moments after the last person took a swig, the rain let up and their dream wedding day continued.

The groom and his guys headed over on Friday to set up camp and begin transforming the campsite into the tropical wedding dreamland. The girls bunked st an Airbnb in St. Mary’s for an early morning wakeup call. After taking the ferry over, they all got dressed and the wedding festivities began!

The locale featured so many gorgeous backdrops from wild horses to tropical dirt roads to sandy beaches and the ruins of Dungeness Mansion. The previous rain truly made these photos all the more stunning!

A + S chose to exchange vows in private beforehand, and the wedding party sat with the rest of guests during the ceremony, except for Skylar (also the matron of honor!) and the best man. After I Do, the couple made a celebratory exit to a beautiful show of water-soluble confetti.
