Butter yellow draping, a larger-than-life pink archway, shimmering golden fringe, and a bride who knows how to make an entrance. Lucy and Sam’s butter yellow and pink wedding at Dunes Palm Beach in Australia was anything but ordinary. Dreamed up alongside planner and stylist Your Day by Chloe, this wildly creative celebration was part immersive art installation, part fashion moment, and one seriously good party.
With Lucy working in the wedding industry herself, the couple knew they wanted to do something different. Rather than follow a traditional wedding formula, they set out to create an entire world for their guests to step into. Something unexpected, a little surreal, and bursting with personality. And lucky for us, Sarbo Studio captured every colorful detail and joy-filled moment so beautifully.
A Butter Yellow and Pink Wedding Inspired by Art
The wedding’s signature color palette began with an unlikely source of inspiration: retail interiors. Lucy had shared references featuring soft butter-yellow changing room curtains, a detail that immediately caught stylist Chloe’s eye.
But the real creative spark came from photographs of Félix González-Torres’ 1995 installation Untitled (Golden), exhibited at La Cuadra de San Cristóbal. The juxtaposition of bold pink architecture and a shimmering golden curtain inspired Chloe to think beyond traditional wedding decor and explore color, scale, and texture in an entirely new way.
The result? A striking palette of buttery yellow, vibrant pink, and metallic gold that carried throughout the celebration in the most unexpected ways.
Bridal Fashion with a Flair for the Dramatic
Let’s talk about the fashion, because Lucy’s was stunning. For her ceremony look, she wore a stunning two-piece gown by J Andreatta, paired with embellished burgundy Gucci slingbacks. The look was romantic and undeniably bridal, but with just enough edge to feel entirely her own.
Even the bridesmaids’ accessories were thoughtfully considered. Custom ostrich-feather bags by Tendresse Studio brought an unexpected textural element to the bridal party, with Lucy’s bouquet by The Abstract Florist designed to complement their feathery silhouettes.
And then came the outfit change.
For the party, Lucy slipped into a fabulous pink feathered top by Hansen & Gretel, perfectly in keeping with the wedding’s larger-than-life aesthetic. Because when your wedding looks like an art installation, why not dress like a work of art yourself?
Welcome to the Butter Box
One of the wedding’s most extraordinary transformations took place beneath the pergola at Dunes Palm Beach. Chloe enveloped the entire space in soft butter-yellow knit fabric, complete with custom-printed carpeting to match. The team affectionately nicknamed the immersive installation the Butter Box, and we can’t think of a better description.
For the ceremony entrance, Chloe collaborated with Sydney-based prop builders to create a custom sculptural pink archway adorned with suspended golden chains. Inspired by the art installation that helped shape the wedding’s creative direction, the shimmering strands invited guests to physically move through the design rather than simply admire it from afar.
And that’s what makes this wedding so special. Every detail was designed to be experienced.
The sculptural floral arrangements by The Abstract Florist brought another layer of artistry to the celebration, playing with unexpected shapes, vibrant colors, and organic textures. Paired with playful furnishings and custom textiles and graphic design by Maison Paper, the entire space felt wonderfully surreal, yet beautifully cohesive. This butter yellow and pink wedding was proof that an unexpected color palette can feel both playful and incredibly sophisticated.
A Little Madonna Magic
Of course, a wedding this theatrical needed an equally memorable ceremony entrance.
Lucy chose to walk down the aisle to a choir rendition of Madonna’s Like a Prayer. Iconic, right?
Oh how we love a black tie wedding! See some of our current favorite attire picks.
As a surprise, Chloe commissioned two large-scale custom art prints from Maison Paper, featuring lyrics from the song. Displayed as guests arrived, the pieces offered a subtle hint at what was to come, while also serving as meaningful keepsakes for the couple to bring home after the wedding.
We love a wedding detail that’s beautiful, personal, and completely unexpected. We also love wedding guests that dress to impress! Speaking of, have you seen our wedding guest dress picks for fall and winter?
Forget the First Dance. Bring Out the Feather Fans.
Just when guests thought they’d seen it all, Lucy and Sam disappeared for an outfit change and made their grand reappearance behind the DJ, wielding enormous ostrich-feather fans.
Instead of a traditional first dance, the couple opted for a theatrical entrance that sent the celebration into full party mode.
As Chloe describes it, the moment was “Pure chaos and joy, in the best possible way.”
Honestly, we couldn’t imagine a more fitting way to kick off the night.
When Creative Freedom Makes Wedding Magic
Beyond the spectacular installations and playful fashion, there’s something else we love about this wedding: the creative trust between Lucy and her planner.
From the beginning, Lucy shared her inspiration and gave Chloe the freedom to interpret it. That openness allowed the design to evolve organically, with new ideas, unexpected details, and even a few surprises coming together along the way.
The result was so much more than a beautiful butter yellow and pink wedding. It was a celebration that felt unmistakably like Lucy and Sam, brought to life through the imagination and artistry of a talented creative team.
And if there’s one takeaway we’re bringing into wedding planning season, it’s this: Don’t be afraid to give your creative team room to dream big. Sometimes the most unforgettable celebrations happen when you let go of the expected and embrace something completely your own.
