If you’re from SoCal and you choose Palm Springs as your wedding destination, chances are you already have a lot of fond memories in this magical place. Alexis grew up visiting with family, a tradition continued on with her guy Tom. So when they decided to tie the knot, Palm Springs was already front of mind. They knew their guests would love the weekend getaway from Orange County, and Avalon Hotel + Bungalows was right up their alley: a boutique hotel with enough accommodations; classic, modern style; and of course—all the California scenery these two love. Thanks to Lauren Scotti Photography for sharing the lovely images below!
Alexis tells it, Our main goal for our wedding was for our guests to have the most amazing, fun and relaxed time. We wanted the feeling to be a big dinner party with all our friends and family together in one space. We kept the overall color scheme of the wedding neutral, adding in accents of greenery, copper and wood. We designed our invitations to feature the iconic California banana leaf palm print, and carried that throughout the wedding, including escort cards, signage, menus and fun accents like pool floats and wedding party gifts. We also included various palm leaves in all our floral arrangements, giving the day a very California feel.
Cute something blue to go along with A’s elegant, minimal Sarah Seven gown. As far as something borrowed, the beaded appliqué around her bouquet was her grandmother’s headpiece (from her own wedding), which Tom’s grandma’s sorority pin (also the bride’s sorority!) was added to.
What did we say, the Avalon is perfect for their classic, modern California vibe. Their fave thing was this stunning ceremony backdrop surrounded by greenery.
Our escort card display was one of our favorite DIYs for the day. We worked closely with our calligrapher to create the display and vision, staining and attaching the cards ourselves. Our wedding favors were also a DIY; watermelon Sour Patch Kids are a favorite of ours, and we felt they would be a perfect treat for our guests, while also lending a small pop of color to our tablescapes. We also chose to serve dinner family style, which we absolutely loved. It let our guests interact more and lent a more laidback feel to dinner.
This getaway car! So fun, right?
A favorite memory of the day was our sunset photos we did right after the ceremony, on a small street outside the venue. We did the photos with my dad’s vintage 1957 MG, which he has owned since 1968 and just finished completely restoring in the last couple of years. This car has been a part of my entire life, and it was really special to be able to have the finished product in our wedding photos.
Congratulations, Alexis and Tom!
