Crafty bohemian wedding on the California Coast: Neel + Lucia

August 10, 2011

We’re over the moon excited to share Neel + Lucia’s effortlessly beautiful wedding! When Lacey Wagner contacted us with the deets on this one, we may or may not have done a little celebratory dance. The DIY elements were flawlessly executed (all thanks to the crafty, Lacey), the location – an enchanted secret forest a.k.a. San Simeon Point on the California coast, and oh yeah, one of our favorite leading ladies from the HBO series, Treme. What was there not to love? In front of 12 close friends and family + two furry children stepping in as flower girls, Neel + Lucia reworked the children’s book, I Like You by Sandol Stoddard Warburg, for their vows, celebrating a perfectly intimate wedding.

To keep it light, she built it using modified bamboo tiki torches and Mitsumata branches. She wrapped the poles in metallic leather and adorned the whole thing with loads of feathers, hand dyed sola wood flowers, glass beads, silk ribbon and handmade paper feathers.

The two best flower girls anyone could ever ask for leading the way!

To incorporate Neel + Lucia’s musical background, Lacey created place cards out of handmade paper feathers from vintage sheet music, wrapped the stems with the same ribbon from the arbor and hand wrote each guests name on vintage vis-ed cards from the 50’s.

Those pretty little vintage cans? Coffee can + Flickr + Printer + Mod Podge + Flowers = a genius idea Lacey came up with that we’re going to “steal” after our coffee cans are good and empty! She found images of old vintage labels on Flickr, printed them out, Mod Podged those babies to coffee cans and filled them with South American roses, delphinium, stock, and lisianthus! Cheap, easy, and looks good? Love. Talk about being crafty on a budget – Lacey pulled off these gorg decorations and flowers for $600.

Doesn’t Lucia look incredible in her BHLDN dress in that top right polaroid? And, let’s not let Neel off the hook. He’s looking quite dapper and charming in his Theory suit.

A few sweet words from Lucia:

During the many years that we were friends we took a road trip up the coast together. We hiked all around the Central Coast, camped, grilled Hearst steaks in the woods, treated ourselves to a delicious meal at Madeline’s in Cambria, walked along the beaches, and came home together way more than friends – as we are today. So… we wanted to have our wedding in the area where our relationship began. We knew we wanted our ceremony outdoors, so we searched for spots and found San Simeon Point, a beautiful stretch of land that juts out into the Pacific. In order to get there, you have to walk across a beach and through an “enchanted” forest – about a 30-minute hike. Madeline’s was an easy choice for the reception dinner, as it was the restaurant where we had our “first date” and fortunately for us, since we had a small group, the venue was free. We only paid for the cost of the meal. I couldn’t have imagined the day to go any other way!

Congrats Neel + Lucia!
