Jessica Hische and Russ Maschmeyer San Francisco wedding

San Francisco City Hall wedding

We’ve been fans of Jessica Hische‘s work since her days at Louise Fili, where she turned lettering into an entirely sexy art form, giving alphabets textures, colorful illustrations, and new shape. Remember her Daily Drop Cap series? Then in 2009, she released her famous Buttermilk font, which we all know made quite the explosion in the wedding invitation world. We could go on. Point is, we love this cute, lettering, self-proclaimed crazy cat lady and her Facebook Product Designer husband. When we caught word of her engagement and laid eyes on their ridiculously amazing wedding website, that tells the epic tale of how Jessica and Russ met, dated and became engaged, we knew this was the wedding we’d been dying to share!

Now for their happily ever after – that they got to celebrate twice. First in San Francisco for their Bay Area friends, told through the photography of Ben Blood and design of Sugar & Fluff, the second, a New York celebration that you’ll see in a bit.

A couple friends of ours had gotten married at city hall in San Francisco and it just seemed so lovely and romantic so we decided to change the ceremony venue to there and have the reception a week later in Brooklyn. It ended up making our wedding festivities last a couple of weeks instead of a couple of hours, which was wonderful.

When it came to Jessica’s bridal bouquet, she gave Sugar & Fluff very simple instructions to make “anything pretty“. Then told us, If you work with good people, you can trust their judgement!

Totally worked. Jessica’s bouquet was dressed with a variety of flowers to introduce texture and a light sherbert color palette of white mojelica spray roses, scabiossa, garden roses and broken up with chocolate cosmos and queen Anne’s lace.

And then it was time to celebrate at Dolores Park with 60 of their SF friends.

Sugar & Fluff constructed these piñata-like monograms, building off the Hoefler font used in Jessica & Russell’s invitation.

Can all weddings have a nail art station?

They’re just too much, aren’t they? After they said ‘I Do’ in San Francisco, they headed to Brooklyn to party with the rest of their gang. We’ve got that celebration coming up in just a bit. Stay tuned.
