Before Don Draper hits the screen this Sunday night in the return of Mad Men, we thought we’d let Bird Dog Weddings take us deep into a retro, mod-inspired world where bright colors, daisies, jello molds, flower crowns, and records are totally happenin’. Who knows, maybe you can whip up some of these looks come Sunday to have yourself the best Mad Men screening party. Or you can call up your gals, dust off the record player, channel your inner Twiggy, and have the cutest bachelorette party. All of the above? Sounds good to us.

Trophy Boutique styled the bride and bridesmaid in the perfect mod fashions (with a little inspiration from the ever-so-fashionable, Twiggy), Lo Boheme provided the fun, whimsical headpieces, and Nisa Nicole and Erica Rae brought the 1960s icons to life via makeup and hair.

The Byrd Collective made sure there were plenty of retro flowers, like daisies and tulips in various bright vessels. They even wrapped the bouquets in vintage ribbon!

Instead of opting out for matching table linens, how about using some bright patterns? It gives you the opportunity to play around and have fun – you can even mix & match a variety of flowers to go with each pattern.

Emily of Bird Dog Weddings on how she came up with such a fun concept:

This shoot was inspired by everything early 1960s – a period I’ve always been very drawn to fashion and design-wise. Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton, The Beatles, and swingin’ London were all great sources of inspiration. The colors and graphics were bright, bold, cheerful, and fun so I focused on using aqua and yellow as the foundation of my color palette. Authentic props were a must. I gathered various vintage pieces to recreate the mod era for each set and used a plethora of 1960s goodies that my aunt and uncle had (including that awesome selection of records). I wanted the shoot to show a bride and bridesmaid relaxing before the wedding day, baking, listening to records, then enjoying the dinner table and dessert reception.

So hard to pick our favorite bit about this shoot. So much inspiration – we just want to eat it all up in a jello mold!

We’ll end this colorful shoot with a few tips from Emily as you plan your next soiree:

- Save money by exploring homes of friends and family for decor items – you might be surprised at the vintage treasures you find.
- When designing within a theme, stick to your vision as much as possible, it will keep your event super cohesive and well designed.
- Be as creative as possible – fresh ideas make for the best eye candy!
- Have fun and never take anything too seriously!

We continue our neon adventure that is/was The Cream Event in Los Angeles. Put a bunch of creative minds together in one space that LOVE throwing you only the best and most memorable wedding in one room, and this is what comes from it. An explosion of a-w-e-s-o-m-e!

Hey, look, it’s us! A huge thanks to YEAH! Rentals for letting us spruce up our space with their rad furniture and Blik Wall Decals for those big white vinyl hearts we used to decorate the floor. Blik has an amazing catalog AND they’ll make you anything you can dream up if you have something special in mind.

Our gorgeous flowers were done by the lovely Honey of a Thousand Flowers. So so pretty. What a talented lady.

Oh, also. Neon sign! We’re convinced everyone should have one.

It was so much fun meeting lots of you in person and sharing our 100 Layer Cake Cakelet Tees with you!

Our neighbors during the event: YEAH! rentals. We can’t even express how excited we are that they’re around. They’re taking furniture rentals and weddings to a whole other level.

Jen from Green Wedding Shoes got super crafty with her table. That heart made with neon string was so fun.

If you want your dinner tables to look unique + amazing, Casa de Perrin is a must! We just checked out their entire collection at their new studio space and it’s really exceptional. Another lil’ secret… they’ll be in the Pop-Up Shop in two weeks. Great time to get a discount on rentals for your event.

We still have no idea how they created this bride, but isn’t she insane?

Like we said – SO much inspiration. We’re still in awe over how creative everyone got. So much so, that we’re coming back with part 3 later today! I know – we’re neon crazy over here, but there are so many more vendors and details to showcase!

Finally! We have the cuteness that was The Cream Event to share with you all. As participating members of every Cream Event so far, we can definitely say that this one was by far the biggest, raddest, and most inspiring. There were just so many good things to look at, to eat, to drink… we can’t possibly capture all of it in a series of blog posts. But here’s to trying!

the cream event la

Aww, Kels and Pagie. These girls, always working so hard to bring the rest of us such fun events. The Geronimo Balloon installations were beyond epic. It’s kind of hard to tire of so much beautiful fringe.

The Rue Magazine / Heath Ceramics collaboration made us want to run right home and redecorate.
