Yep, this Museum of Ice Cream wedding is just as amazing as it sounds

It’s difficult to see in the moment, but let Sydney + Catherine’s amazing Museum of Ice Cream wedding remind you that it IS possible for plan B to turn out even better than plan A. Reflecting on the planning process, they showed us how hurdles can help you think more creatively about the possibilities. Don’t believe us? Scroll through Jenn Emerling‘s photos to learn how S + C ended up tying the knot in San Francisco and hosting a mega rad party at Museum of Ice Cream for all their (super lucky!) guests.

Here’s how it all started… We originally chose a venue in Guerneville called Dawn Ranch—it was really the only venue we went to look at and knew right away that we wanted to have our wedding there. The biggest thing for us was to pick a location where our wedding was a weekend celebration on site and not just a one day event. Dawn Ranch allowed us to have all of our friends stay onsite in cabins with spaces for all the weekends festivities. When Guerneville was hit with a big flood and we found out that Dawn Ranch was no longer going to be an option we had no idea where we wanted to turn to next as we never considered any other options.

Re-opening the venue search led them to San Francisco Film Centre for a ceremony and formal reception dinner, where they hinted at the activities to come with candy wax bottle place card holders and jawbreaker favors at place settings (which you can see in our gallery).

The Museum of Ice Cream became one of those “It’s not actually a possibility, is it?” kind of ideas. We joked about how incredible it would be while trying to find any other location that could be booked so close to our wedding date for the large guest list we had. After a heartfelt letter from one of our moms and a few persistent phone calls later, the hypothetical venue became a reality. It could not have worked out better—their staff was wonderful and they were renovating the San Francisco location just in time for our wedding date.

Our wedding wound up being more creative and fun than we had ever imagined. We have been thinking of everyone who has to change or postpone their wedding plans due to the pandemic and all we can say is that while changing course is hard, in the end our plan B turned out even better than plan A. Unexpected hurdles can push you to think outside the box and in ways you never would before.

Congratulations, you two!
