Cakies, these photos that The Arroyos and Prim Event Studio shared of Natalia and Marek’s modern rustic wedding at Red Barn Ranch are sure to put a smile on your face. The whole celebration exudes joy, and you’d never know that a wildfire tore through this beautiful region just a week before. The wedding even took place during the Perseid meteor shower (an intentional choice and a nod back to their very first date in ’06.). Yep, the stars truly aligned for these two!
Their day was all about embracing the joys of summer with warm hues, dining al fresco, and celebrating with loved ones into the night.
Natalia explains, We wanted our wedding to be bright and colorful, with an easy, laidback elegance that didn’t take away from the natural California landscape. It was all about balancing fun, rustic elements, like our airstream trailer-photobooth and barn DJ station, with a sophisticated twist that gave the overall vibe some much-appreciated polish. My husband and I are both very easygoing, people-focused people, for us it was more about sharing a beautiful day with our guests, than about coming up with specific wedding themes and color palettes.

We wanted to capture a certain feeling, rather than a specific look. So, we added plenty of flowers, bohemian rugs, comfortable seating in a mixture of colors and styles, both vintage and modern in muted reds, warm browns and velvet blues. The effect was lovely, elegant and understated. It created a feeling of warmth and comfort while retaining that sense that we were experiencing something really special and unique.
Our wedding happened during a devastating wildfire, one that quite literally bordered our venue. Our planner Morgan of Prim Event Studio, who is such a hero, was looking for an alternative venue a WEEK before our wedding and superstar that she is, she managed to find a couple of options for us. There was a real possibility that our venue would either burn down, or that the air would be unbreathable. We had to make a decision just a few days before the wedding. It was extremely stressful, but we stuck with our original venue, and thankfully everything worked out just fine. The air was clear, the sky was blue, and the only thing burning that night was the dance floor.

N + M both have Polish roots, so they incorporated a couple super fun wedding traditions into the day, like taking a shot together to kick off the festivities, and celebrating into the wee hours of the night. Best traditions ever!

Their story… We met at a strange little place in Toronto called The Supermarket, a teeny tiny bar where, on Wednesday nights, you could find one of the best 60s mod dance parties anywhere. I had just finished work, in fact, I was still in my Parking Authority uniform when my friends showed up at work to drag me out. So there I was, feeling gross after a long shift, wearing my work clothes when he shows up. I noticed him the moment he walked in. He was just my type, standing a head taller than everyone else, with dark grown-out hair tucked behind his ears. I remember nudging my friend in the ribs, “tall drink of water, eleven o’clock.”
