When the bride is a talented graphic designer, you know there’s bound to be some amazing wedding DIYs involved, like this industrial chic ceremony backdrop inspired by the bride’s fave designer, Alexander McQueen. Jess doesn’t consider herself a girly-girl at all, so while she was into the idea of a blush color palette, she knew it had to have a little edge. She and Peter came up with a black, white, and blush design that included modern, graphic elements and luxe decor. The blank canvas that is Airship 37 in Toronto ended up being a killer spot to adorn with *all* the above.

And did we mention that these two said I Do on their 10-year dating anniversary? Thanks to Rebecca Chan Weddings & Events and photog Avenew Studios for sharing the deets below!

BTW, this sweet dress? Jessica tried on 40+ gowns in Toronto and nothing came close. Perhaps that’s because this romantic Riki Dalal design with a mermaid silhouette and tulle skirt was nothing like the gowns she thought she’d be into. It also came with a beaded top that she wore with white wide leg pants for her reception look.

Jessica says, Walking down the aisle and seeing each other at that moment just felt so surreal. 10 years flew by in a blink of an eye and we both were in awe of how much love we felt that day. It was unforgettable to have everyone we love and adore in one place to share our special day with. It was definitely a the most magical and fun day of our lives!

Gasp… Isn’t this space so pretty transformed for the reception? Jess was behind all the graphic elements, including the menus, table numbers, place cards, and favor stickers. Her mom also made the table runners from the fabric that she sourced since she couldn’t find anything that fit their vision. And Peter made all the little concrete votives (a closer peek below!).

The biggest hurdle was having too many ideas floating around in my head and not wanting to compromise on the visual elements. I blame Pinterest! Being a graphic designer, I am very particular and picky about the smallest of details. I looked at our wedding as the biggest design project of my life. It was tough to nail down the theme and I flip flipped for a while until I finally decided. Once we got the ball rolling, another hurdle was finding the items I wanted to rent for the look that I envisioned. We had to do a lot of research to source items because they were so specific and not usually used at weddings—ie. gold geometric lanterns, gauzy table runners, long white tables that didn’t require tablecloths, matte black chargers.

She even created the cutout lettering for this fun, sparkly donut wall and dessert table!
