Fall Santa Barbara wine country wedding ceremony

Grace + Trevor make a gooood case for the long engagement. Taking two years to plan their 80-guest wedding at Sunstone Vineyards and Winery was perfect: They enjoyed the engagement, got all the big stuff out of the way, and had plenty of time to mull over the small details + DIYs without getting rushed or overwhelmed. Be sure read the bride’s top tips after scrolling through Lavender and Twine’s photos!

It was important for us to create an evening where everyone felt as though the night progressed seamlessly without an obvious schedule. We opted out of throwing the bouquet and garter, food was served family style, our first dance ended up being spontaneous and a different song than planned, and we decided not to have a religious ceremony… Our friends cannot stop talking about our first dance. We had planned to do a slow dance but couldn’t resist the opportunity to get up and boogie once my maid of honor began to belt out Duffy’s Mercy.

Grace fell in love with an indigo batik fabric she saw at a flea market, so they developed their wedding style around it. They also incorporated lots of DIY projects, like wedding gift bags, cake toppers, guestbook, chair signs, bar signs, etc.

Lastly, the bride’s top planning tips:

1. Take your time planning. Being engaged is a really nice time in your life and goes by super fast. The more time you have to plan, the less stressful the process will be and the more you can enjoy it.
2. Use vendors that have worked at your venue. Leanne of Soleil Events was phenomenal and knew everything about Sunstone as she had done events there many times before. That right there made everything flawless. Ventura Rental was also very familiar with Sunstone so we had a power team!
3. If you are doing a lot of DIYs, manage your time and keep an eye on how much money you spend. I had a lot of ideas but I had to narrow them down depending on how much time they would take, how much they would cost, and if they would turn out ok. DIYs are wonderful as you can add your own personal touch to your wedding but they can get very expensive and take a lot of time.

Thanks for the tips, Grace! Wishing you two the best!
