Colorful DIY woodsy wedding

Last month we caught a snippet of cookbook author + food show host Laura + musician/producer Eric’s wedding over on designlovefest and haaaad to track down the rest of the photos. This pic by Martin Vielma? How could we not learn more? We found out they partied with most of their 150 guests at camp all weekend and DIYed just about everything for the occasion too. And wait till you hear about that necklace! So neat. Find all the details in the post.

Laura says, As a way to tame my anxiety as the wedding was approaching, I started making big bright necklaces out of clay. I found that they were a great fidgeting tool to help my anxiety. I finally realized that I should just pile a bunch of them on at once for the wedding day as much anti-anxiety suit of armor!

They loved the idea of adorning the woods in bright, neon colors—so that’s exactly what they did. As for projects, Laura sourced all the décor, Eric wrote the first dance song, and they collaborated with the groomsmen to set up a speakeasy in the back of a box truck they parked in the woods (!!!). Pretty rad DIYs, we’d say…

Looove.

Aside from the ceremony, we’d probably say the post-reception midnight hike through the woods to the speakeasy in total darkness would be the most memorable moment from the day. The night before the wedding, we had a talent show where we performed an a cappella version of “Book of Love” together, which probably would be the most memorable moment if we weren’t so drunk when we did it.

L + E hooked up with Grimace Films after seeing this fun wedding on our blog, who introduced them to their photographer Martin Vielma, and they both road tripped up to the YMCA Camp Campbell in the Santa Cruz Mountains for their day.

Parting words from our couple… One of the biggest hurdles was sorting out all the vendors, especially shuttles to camp from the nearby hotels. This leads us to our biggest piece of advice: get a wedding planner! Our day of planner Katie Hund was incredible, but in retrospect we wish we had hired her earlier for more help with the coordination. We were initially worried that getting a planner would tame our wild ideas too much, but in reality, she probably would have just taken the logistics off our plate and made it all less stressful.

Congrats guys, we love your style!
