Eclectic Australian wedding: Lauren + Dave

October 18, 2011

Graphic designers tend to have such killer weddings, don’t they? Lauren, our stunning bride, just so happens to be one. She designed their letterpress invitations, played the role of event coordinator, and even entertained guests with a little drum playing. Believe us when we say – Lauren + Dave’s wedding was quite the regal affair from down under. It’s a classic gem, rich in tradition and chock-full of bits & pieces that give air to their personalities. On top of that, their venue, the eclectic and carefully curated art studio of David Bromley, was top notch. Kudos to L + D for being the 1st wedding ever to be hosted there! We consider that an achievement, plus it makes for great photos!

There was no way Lauren was going to pass up the opportunity to design their invitations, and use her all-time favorite printing method – letterpress. Invitations were printed on two pieces of linen paper and were duplexed (stuck together), creating an extremely thick result. They came out perfect, and definitely showed off her love for typography. She used a local printer, Chapel Press in Brighton, Melbourne.

After finding out that it’s a Jewish tradition for the bride and groom not to see each other for a week leading up to the wedding, we can’t help but blush at the huge smiles on their faces when they finally got to see each other at the ceremony.

Why ever have a reception party in a hall again? Having the party in David Bromley’s art studio allowed guests to wander through the space, discovering all the different rooms that are so easily charming and loveable. Since the space was already brimming with interesting objects, the only decor they needed to add were flowers and candles. Good tip to keep in mind when looking for venues!

Instead of the traditional first dance, Lauren and Dave entertained their guests with an African Drum routine.
