Rustic handmade Colorado wedding: Marcy + Dave

September 22, 2011

Marcy + Dave are such a feel-good pair, that we honestly feel lucky to be sharing their lovefest with you. The Gorrono Ranch in Telluride, Colorado was their first and only choice for a venue because  it screamed “fun-rustic-adventure!”, with a little bit of an elegant, “yee-haw!”. Plus, Colorado, or as they love to call it, “Coco”, was where they ran off to just a few years ago when they started their crazy adventurous love story. The bits of “yee-haw” elegance might be our favorite element in this wedding as it’s so evident in the flower girls. Oh, word – these flower girls. Boots, white dresses, and wings – yes! Weddings like this just make us feel so good.

Look closely at their invitations and you’ll see their hand drawn profiles of each other transforming into waves and mountains. Neat, right? Their invitation suite was completely handmade using a Print Gocco (these are so fun to use btw), free veneer scraps from B & B Rare Woods, and bulk paper and envelopes from French Paper. They used Marcy’s handwriting as the “font”, since most people would recognize it and wanted to make sure to stick to something that didn’t look computer generated. Some Nepalese deep teal paper and brushed on gold ink, and they had the perfect bit of Aspen flare. Without postage and last minute ink from Japan, they spent $500 on all save the dates, invites (with 3 inserts), thank you notes, CD envelopes, programs, vows, schedules and details for gift bags. Whew, what a list, but what a bargain!

We’re going to try something a bit different and add their aisle song up here so you have a chance to press play and listen to as you swoon over the images and read the details. This song played as the adorable angelic flower girls and Marcy walked down the aisle, but we feel it best expresses the emotions that were flying high that day. Plus, Marcy explained it as “being one of the most powerful freeze frames in my life – when Dave first reached over and held my hand without saying a word”. It couldn’t get any more epic than Explosions in the Sky.

Like we said, the flower girls! We can’t get over those little boots, especially the blue ones. And of course, the wings! Marcy + Dave made them using wire from a hardware store and tulle.

“Make a wish and blow as we exit” was the cute little note attached to each of these glass bottles that were tied to aisle seats at the ceremony with dandelions. Such a fun and unique idea!

A watercolor guestbook and cootie-catchers? So so fun. The cootie-catchers kept all the kids occupied during dinner, and kept family spoiled with hugs and kisses. Inside the final flaps, little messages like, “Kiss the Bride”, “Hug the Groom”, “Kiss Grandma Mary” were hand written for a sweet little game.

The perfect fun-rustic-adventure for sure! Thanks Aubrey for sharing Marcy + Dave’s beautiful wedding with us!
