We love it when a wedding comes in that just screams “cool”, and today’s is that, plus more. Ivette & Ben were kind enough to share a bunch of little details from their wedding and we’re so excited to be able to pass them on to yous.

Poster-sized invitations – yes! What a brilliant way to announce that your friends and family are about to attend the best wedding they’ve ever attended. The budget for their invitations was $800. To save some cash, dear friend, Satoko Furuta, designed them and had them printed on poster-size chipboard.

Ivette and a few friends baked Mexican wedding cookies and packaged them up as cute favors (the sweet little box on the left, above). More and more we’re seeing brides and their families bake their own sweets. We love the idea, the bonding experience it creates and of course, the money it saves! Ingredients are inexpensive, plus you can easily purchase goodie bags and decorate them however you’d like. Uline and PaperMart are great places to start.

And flowers from Flora Grubb are nearly all a girl needs to make her wedding pretty perfect. They’re so so good.

If you’re ever visiting San Francisco you must stop at Dynamo Donuts. With a plethora of flavors to choose from (ginger orange, banana de leche, bacon maple apple + more!), Ivette & Ben opted out of the traditional cake and saved a few hundred dollars going with a donut bar. The upside – guests got to choose their tasty treats. Well played!

The Headlands Center for the Arts could not have been a more perfect venue. Find a great venue like this and decorating easily slims down because you have such a great space to start off with. Simple Christmas lights borrowed from family saved Ivette & Ben $400 bucks.

The key to throwing such an event and saving money in the process? Having crafty and creative friends! Or at least friends who are willing to give free labor for your projects. Thank you Kate for sharing such a great wedding and Ivette for sharing such helpful deets.
