Colorful Southern California wedding: Melanie + Sky

October 27, 2009

This is a wedding dear to our heart because the stars are Kristina’s brother-in-law Sky and now sister-in-law (yay!), Melanie. (Remember her cute shower?) And it was such a super fun, beautiful, sophisticated, but still love-filled event. We could go on, but we’ll spare you and get right to the amazing photos by Michèle M. Waite.

Actually, first let’s start with Melanie’s overall vision. Bright and vibrant like an Pedro Almodovar movie, but also soft and beautiful and timeless. Good lesson for those planning your wedding, you don’t HAVE to stick to the same colors for the entire event. The ceremony and cocktail party were bright, the dinner elegant and subtle. And then the dance party was bright again. Fun, no?

Now we start:

Oooh pretty feathers. Doesn’t the bouquet tie both the bright and subtle ideas together nicely?

Love the Vanity Fair style shots. And aren’t bridemaids’ colors fantastic? They carried bright (eco-friendly) balloons instead of flowers! There’s more over on Michele’s blog.

Instead of table numbers, Melanie and Sky used the acronym M.A.S (get it? Melanie And Sky?) to come up with sweet little names for each table. “More Amor Señor”, “Mostly About Superheros”, “Mercurial Andalusian Snakecharmers”… you get the picture. For favors, they gave their very favorite game in the entire world, a version of dice that they learned from a friend years ago. The little bag came with 5 die and instructions for how to play.

For their first dance, Melanie and Sky learned the tango. It was hot. And well worth the year of dance lessons.

And then following dinner the fun seriously picked up. Michael from the Flashdance was on the tables and MAN does he kill it. People well over 50 were dancing their hearts out until midnight. Seriously, if you want a legit dance party, you need to hire him. Melanie said (in the middle of the dance floor) that he was like musical crack. We’re not necessarily familiar with crack, but she was right on about the addictive quality of his mixology. Plus he brings a smile booth (if you ask) and does a little time lapse video of the whole night. And we’re like totally ecstatic we have it to share with you.

Thanks for sending this over Michael!
