Connecticut farm wedding: Erin + James
Like many of you (us included), Erin had a frustrating time finding the perfect venue. She didn’t just want a place that could hold up to a wild rager, a place with blank walls, or a place so noisy that it would drown out their vows. She had her heart set on an idea and feeling she wanted, and found it in Barberry Hill Farm. You can read all about it on her blog here. It’s the sweetest post that had us nodding our heads in agreement. The week before the wedding, they gussied up the joint by lashing together old cedar posts and stringing up antique bottles to make an outdoor altar and had one heck of a sweet celebration.
Like the food that we ate, James and I wanted all of the flowers for our wedding to come from nearby places. On the morning of the wedding, my sisters snipped bunches of Queen Anne’s lace for our place cards. My sister, Laura, helped me make my bouquet and James’s boutonniere. We used white, pink and buttercream-colored zinnias, pink cornflowers, white and pink gomphrena, and unripened blackberries, all grown at Barberry Hill Farm and harvested that morning.
James and I didn’t have a true bridal party, but I processed into the ceremony with our families to Bob Dylan’s Forever Young, as played by our Brooklyn-based band, Roosevelt Dime. The song was played at my mom and dad’s wedding, too, and I’m a sucker for family history. When it came time to process out, Roosevelt Dime played a cover of M. Ward’s Here Comes the Song Again (the first song I ever played for James and one of our favorites). Our first dance was Bruce Springsteen’s Tomorrow Never Knows, mostly because it’s infinitely upbeat.
Congratulations Erin + James!

This looks like a gorgeous wedding. The little details like the hanging bottles of plants are so simple yet sumptuous. A field of sunflowers is the perfect backdrop for some romantic and memorable photos. I love it!
