Real Wedding: Brittany + Paul

Categories   Real Weddings

Erica from Thoughtful Day sent us a link to this sweet couple on their wedding day. The big flowers are so excellent, aren’t they?

Brittany wanted to bring some of the magical imagery from Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen (where they had their first date) and the fantasy of Hans Christian Andersen fairytales into their wedding decor, i.e. big, quirky signs and magnificent, oversized florals (because Brittany LOVES all things floral).

The flowers are completely amazing.

Brittany is wearing her mom’s dress. So cute!

To create the 20 huge banners, Brittany sent blank canvas to a bunch of friends and family and had them paint the banners instead! She gave them some Scandinavian garden inspiration and a color palette and waited for the finished pieces to be mailed back. Such a fun idea!

Brittany also spent an inordinate amount of time creating her invites. Obviously they had to follow the flower theme, and she loves letterpress so wanted to include that. But because she wanted to use so many colors, her print man from Rowley Letterpress, found a gilcee printer for the illustration and then used letterpress for the type. Perfect!

Make sure you check out the full explanation of the process and more pretty photos on the Rowley blog.

Ahh. The big flowers. They are the bestest things we’ve seen in a while. Brittany and her mom actually made all of them by hand, inspired by a project she did at the Danish Embassy last year. 20 for the tables and one very special one to serve as Brittany’s bouquet. Her mom made that one out of watercolor paper and hand watercolored it with peaches and pinks.

And also the tiny flowers! Aren’t they lurrvelly?

Frickin’ GORGEOUS and so thoughtful and detailed. You guys did an amazing job. We’re so so happy we were able to share your pretty day!

I love these, too! These were inspired by the Brooklyn-based Artist, Eloise Danch, (, who has created hundreds of Paper Flower sculptures and displays around the country. Eloise appeared on The Martha Stewart Show last year in a tutorial (video) on how to make these paper poppies as seen in this wedding. Although they are not as gigantic.

Creativity, creativity, creativity! You have created a wedding like no one else! Thank you for FRESH ideas! I agree with Dance in her comment regarding your invitations. Artists do get their inspiration and take it a step further. I love your invitations.

Jess on Jan 5, 2011

Thanks Brittany & Paul for such a fantastic idea. My fiancee and I are getting married this fall and cannot wait to incorporate the giant flowers and banners into the wedding. We are going to mail out the banners to all the guests and then display them at the reception. We are also going to use the giant flowers for the bridal party instead of real flowers. Thank you again for such a terrific idea and thanks 100layercake for such cute, simple website that makes a bride to be life a little easier.

Garry on Mar 24, 2011

Stunning beauty, simplicity and elegance. The dress is absolutely wonderful, there is nothing more appealing to a man than modesty in a bride. I know how much your mom loves you by looking at that wonderful work. Your wedding looked like so much fun!

Hanna on Mar 30, 2011

A lot of people ask about the ring, and altough I cannot say who made it, I can say that the design is typically Scandinavian. That kind of ring is quite easy to find in Denmark and Sweden, maybe Norway and Finland to. Any jeweller would be able to make one.

Aline on May 1, 2011

Ooooooo my go.....! What a lovely couple!!! I'm getting married in France next august and I would love have this giant flower in my hand for my wedding! Do you know where can I buy one like this?! Nothing looks smiliar on internet.... Thanks for you for your answer!
