Happy first Friday in Spring, friends! It may not feel like it quite yet, but warmer days are on their way. Until then, we’re celebrating with a look back at Jacquelyn of Beijos Events‘ 40th birthday, a milestone that she celebrated with a Spring party at home with friends in collaboration with her favorite local creatives and bestie, photog Alison Bernier. It’s filled with 40th birthday ideas—from custom decor to cocktails to activities for guests. Not to mention, it has us so excited for all the backyard gatherings to come!
You know all those custom details like stir sticks, cocktail napkins, and favors you see on birthday parties all over Pinterest? A 40th birthday is absolutely the kind of milestone just begging you to put those inspo pins to use. Details truly make the soiree!
Backyard 40th Birthday Party Ideas
Guests knew they were in for something good when they walked up to the giant 40 marquee from Alpha Lit covered in The Pop Shop balloons. Though this was primarily a backyard party, they knew they wanted to channel the theme inside by bringing in a few details guests would see as they walked through to the yard. So they were welcomed to the party with more oversized balloons and childhood photos (a little nostalgia is a must have for a milestone birthday, no?) as they headed out to the action. The team had set up a modern pairing of tables and chairs, and beautiful summer blooms. Scroll through for more ideas below!
Jacquelyn says, A year ago I – GULP – turned 40! Not something most of us look forward to but after the past few years I wanted something to celebrate. It was a milestone birthday and my husband and I wanted to gather our nearest and dearest to have some fun! I of course enlisted the help of all of my favorite vendors to make it extra cute and special! We were going back and forth on whether to have a party with Covid but two weeks before we said, let’s go for it! And it was a night to remember.
Never underestimate the power of tapping into your personal network when planning a party. Jacquelyn borrowed the disco balls from her friend Sabrina at Golden Arrow Event Design to channel the party vibes outside. Even if they’re not event designers, you never know what party supplies or on-trend decor details your friends may be able to bring to the experience.
If you have the space for it, incorporating areas for guests to mingle and sit is always a good idea. They had a table set for guests to eat at, cute high tops spread throughout the yard, and the most beautiful bar set up along with a couple spots to lounge.
And they turned to Sweet & Saucy Shop for the bright and tasty treats—cupcakes and a colorful, gold guided cake fit for a 40th birthday.
The bar was probably my favorite spot, and it wasn’t just because we had the yummiest drinks! I love this beautiful bar from Sweet Salvage Rentals, paired with the amazing balloons, florals, and of course a disco ball! This scene is just too good! Plus, Pirouette Paper and Creative Amme created the most beautiful signage and stir sticks for those extra special details.
Their curated cocktails included spicy mezcal margaritas, skinny margaritas, and an old fashioned. Yum, yum, and yum.
And who doesn’t love a backyard photo booth moment? Foto Vibe Photostation helped everyone capture the fun!
Such a milestone to remember. We hope this party offered up loads of 40th birthday ideas, and that we see more birthday parties in our inboxes soon! How we love when people take an opportunity to go all out on a birthday and spend some quality time with loved ones they don’t often see all in one place.
