Prepare yourself for one rad engagement shoot, cakies. Photog Wai Reyes followed these two lovebirds out to Joshua Tree, to a quaint little cabin rental in the middle of the desert. They danced around with DIY dream catchers, nestled together inside a makeshift teepee, and posed against the weathered paint on the porch. After the shoot, Vanessa and David played cards in the middle of the cabin living room while listening to Johnny Cash and the wind blowing outside. Dreamy indeed.
Vanessa says, We are very much into adventuring the outdoors, and Joshua Tree holds a special place in our hearts. We love the beautiful rock formations and the openness of the desert. We stayed in this old cabin where our neighbors were roadrunners and jackrabbits.
We styled the shoot ourselves, and made the dream catchers using old crochet pieces and hula hoops. My fiancé put together the makeshift teepee with wood from home depot, rope, and vintage lace tablecloths.
Their love story: We have been longtime friends since high school (over 10 years). He was the best man and I was the maid of honor in our best friends’ wedding back in January 2010. We ended up realizing we should be more than friends during the span of the wedding planning process. Then, at the wedding, he caught the garter and I caught the bouquet. We have been dating since then and to this day still have those mementos.
