Backyard weddings are one of our very fave kinds of weddings. They’re relaxed, welcoming and have a cozy, intimate feeling that you just can’t get from another venue. But now let’s chat about this Michigan backyard wedding shot by JR Magat in particular… All of things we love about backyard weddings apply, and then there are homemade cupcakes, vintage teacup tea light holders, and all sorts of wonderful DIYs by the bride to top it off. Let’s just say we’re really feeling it.

These two had the prettiest old tree to get married under. No wonder Jenna says her parents’ backyard is “essentially paradise.”

Jenna’s simple empire waist sheath was actually a bridesmaid’s dress! Jenna says, I loathe traditional stiff satin or lace dresses but also chose not to spend thousands of dollars on a vintage-inspired dress from BHLDN. It took me a while to realize that bridesmaid’s dresses actually offered more of the draping, soft style that suited me.

Jenna’s bouquet consisted of different colors of garden roses and ranunculus, along with flowers and vines from her parent’s yard like honeysuckle, myrtle, and mulberry branches. Oh, and did we mention that she made it herself (flower crowns too)?

“Meditation from Thais” played for Jenna + Sean’s our walk down the aisle. Their first dance as husband and wife was to “June Hymn” by the Decemberists. Top notch music picks, yes?

Congratulations Jenna + Sean!
