David + Ginny have always been drawn to the sea, so for their engagement session with Jen Huang Photography they decided to take to the beautiful beachfront grounds of the Wauwinet hotel. But these aren’t your average seaside engagement shots, oh no. Instead of sunlight there’s the mysterious Nantucket fog; where there might be lifeguard towers there are quaint lighthouses off in the distance; and in place of flip-flops and cut-offs there’s Ginny in the loveliest of vintage frocks. It’s quintessentially New England and oh-so-pretty.
Ginny has the best hair, doesn’t she?
Their love story from the bride-to-be… I moved to Manhattan in February 2011 to attend culinary school at the International Culinary Center. I didn’t know anyone in the city but figured with time I would make friends. David was in my class, but we did not get to know each other until my third month in the program. At the beginning of level three, David asked me to be in his group and we slowly got to know one another. Over time we became best friends and spent our lunches laughing about all of the crazy things that would go on at school.
Before moving to New York City I bought two concert tickets to my favorite band, Death Cab for Cutie. I didn’t know whom I would take to the concert but I figured I would meet someone during school that would like to go with me. When my sister, Natalie, came to visit she convinced me to ask David to the concert. I am not going to lie, she had to twist my arm since I am pretty shy, and I didn’t want to be the first person to ask the other one out. With a lot of convincing I relented and asked David. He got back to me quickly and seemed really excited to go.
The concert did not end up being our first date though, since the next day David asked me to the Mary Poppins Broadway show. We had a great time at the play and ended up going back to my apartment for pizza and then talked until 1:30 in the morning. After our first date David and I were inseparable. He would drive me to school every morning and then we would spend as much time as we could together during school. In the evening we would go on dates to Central Park, Yankee’s games, Broadway shows, and walks around Soho and Chelsea. We had an idyllic time together in New York City; I don’t think there is a better place to fall in love.
David’s proposal was kept very simple. He asked me to go out for a walk with him one afternoon and at the end of it he got down on one knee and presented me with the most perfect rose gold and white sapphire ring.
