Well guys, Apryl Ann Photography and Cakewalk Bake Shop have done it again. They’ve whipped up a yummy little treat recipe that’s as gorgeous to look at as their grownup Popsicle tutorial we shared earlier in the season. What a team these two are. But instead of popsicles, this time it’s a tequila-spiked summer sip that’s a little bit spicy and a little bit sweet. Would make a great signature cocktail or wedding favor too…
Grapefruit + Jalapeño Infused Tequila
– mid-grade clear tequila
– glass bottle or jar with lid
– funnel (optional)
Step 1: Prep the grapefruit and jalapeño by removing the skin from the grapefruit as well as the pith, core, seeds and stem from the jalapeño. I then sliced my jalapeño very thin to fit into my vessel, but depending on your container and the look you want, you can cut it up (or not) however you’d like.
Step 2: Place the cleaned up grapefruit and jalapeño into the bottle/jar. (Funnels come in handy for containers with small mouths.) I like to fill up my jars with fruit to really get the flavor in there. Then, top off with tequila and attach lid.
Step 3: Store spirits in a cool, dark place and lightly shake the jar every few days. The infusion will take about 3-4 weeks. (You do have to nurture it a bit, but that makes it even more special.) When it’s ready, pour yourself a cocktail and enjoy your one-of-a-kind concoction!
These would make such unique wedding/party favors—just add a custom tag or thank you sticker, and you’ve got yourself a cute little gift. We styled ours with scraps of vintage fabric and twine, but wouldn’t they be cute styled with layers of fringe and tassels? This would make a great wedding project for you and your groom to do together about a month before the wedding.
Another fun idea is to include a cocktail recipe with your gift. We chose grapefruit and jalapeño, inspired by the La Paloma cocktail that seems to be making the summer menu rounds at every hip bar in Austin and Dallas. Since our tequila is flavored, we tweaked the cocktail recipe a little bit.
Infused La Paloma:
– 2 oz. grapefruit + jalapeño infused tequila
– top with club soda
– squeeze of lime
– garnish with grapefruit salt and a slice of jalapeño + lime
