Remember when we shared Ross + Jess’s wedding website in our Bits for Friday? We were super impressed with the design (secretly wishing we could see their wedding), that we nearly flipped when photographer, Matt Lien sent us their photos. With its curry and cement color palette, woodsy details, modern branding, and one-of-a-kind stationery, this wedding is every design nerds dream. Ross + Jess had their hands in everything, and if their wedding is any indication of their personalities, than they’re the sweetest design nerds around. That’s a good thing! We’ll happily gush over their design work any day.
If you haven’t guessed by now, Ross + Jess are designers. They met at a design event, obviously, and love collaborating on projects together. He works at this rad design firm, she works at this chic stationery studio. She loves cooking, entertaining and their awesome pet rabbit. He loves cribbage, sci-fi novels and a good micro brew. Sounds like a fun couple, no?
We had such a blast designing our invitations! We had them letterpressed at Studio on Fire on heavy cotton paper, and purchased our envelopes from Paper Source. Total cost for the suite was about $1,200. We also designed and wrote the content for our website with the help of our good friend Bobby Marko, who coded it for us. To help keep our wedding costs down we added a shop to our site to sell posters we designed. It turned out to be an awesome resource for earning some money to help pay for everything.
R + J made their guestbook from pieces of balsa that they stained and then bound with fabric.
Using branches from IKEA, a handful of flowers, homemade arrows, and rope, they created a unique centerpiece to hang above the head table.
Cottage roses, craspedias, dragon snaps, and small daisies were placed in found jars and set on the coolest homemade tablecloth.
“The table runners were probably the longest and maybe hardest project we took on but also our favorite and most unique. We had to iron and cut all the fabric, then iron it again and screen print it. We had a system set up with one person pulling the ink on the screen and the other moving the fabric down. It took us about 5 hours to cut and iron all the runners and then another whole day to print the fabric”.
Applause! DIY wedding done right. Congrats Ross + Jess!
