Rustic, farm-to-table California wedding: Averyl + Ben

January 12, 2016
Carol Hannah Bridal

Soooo, how stunning does the Carol Hannah gown our bride Averyl donned on her big day look in motion? Swoon. We loved that Averyl + Ben just wanted to celebrate with their closest friends + fam (65 including them!) by throwing a big, formal, farm-to-table dinner party wedding. What’s better than good company + food + love + pretty flowers? Click through for more images by Edyta Szyszlo Photography

As for music, A + B chose the Louis Armstrong version of La Vie En Rose for both the walk down aisle + first dance.

Averyl says, We kept the color palette really neutral and simple because we fell in love with our venue, our caterer, and our florist Shotgun Floral Studio. We wanted the space, the food, the flowers, and our love do the talking. Ben and I love a rustic, but classic and pared down aesthetic. We love cooking and entertaining at home, so we treated our wedding like a larger-than-average dinner party. We loosely told our wedding party that we loved speeches and anyone who wanted to talk was welcome to. The best surprise of the day was listening to all eight members of our wedding party give meaningful, loving toasts throughout dinner. There were so many beautiful stories that came out of the speeches and it made the whole evening so much more intimate and memorable.

It was a dream of Averyl’s to plan her wedding from start to finish (check out her Pinterest board) + with the help of their caterer, Laura Putnam of Jessica Lasky Catering. they got to focus on the food and company. Well done!

Their favors were jars of blackberry jam made from berries that grow wild on her parent’s property in Napa.

Planning advice from Averyl…

We spent a year carefully planning. The biggest obstacle was that we had no idea what we were getting into when we booked our venue. Most venues come with something: linens, a dance floor, tables, etc. Our venue was a blank canvas (which we loved), but we completely underestimated how much it would cost to build everything from scratch. We even had to bring in a pop up kitchen! We would do it all over again exactly the same way, but the experience taught me to always ask what’s included when planning something big. Every contract and venue is completely different and you have to be informed in order to stick to your budget! Also, when in doubt, book a videographer. It was the best money we ever spent.

Cheers, you two!
