We can’t think of a better way to kick off a new summer week than with this most fun, colorful Texas wedding by Sophie Epton Photography and Wild Sky Events. Gabriela + Alejandro’s wedding was a celebration of their Latino backgrounds—Puerto Rican + Cuban on her side, Mexican on his. Coming from Catholic families, they didn’t think twice about a traditional ceremony at the beautiful Saint Mary Cathedral, but they snagged the Barr Mansion for a vibrant, modern reception with gorgeous blooms and lots of tasty, organic food made on site.

The bride tells it, I was instantly drawn to Sophie Epton’s colorful, romantic, and bright work upon browsing our options for wedding photography, but the direction and personality behind the camera was a very important factor for us too. Sophie and her husband make such a wonderful team and I could tell how lovely of people they were from our first telephone consult. They kept us smiling, comfortable, and relaxed throughout the long day. Needless to say, each photo they took is a masterpiece and I don’t think I’ll ever tire of going through them.

How stunning is Gabriela’s bridal look?! A cold front rolled in during the wedding week and the temps dropped almost 40 degrees in 24 hours! So their bright spring wedding quickly became a winter one. Wild Sky Events ran off to find heaters, pashminas, hand warmers, set up a blanket station, and anything else that would keep guests comfortable in a building with no heat. So glad it all worked out!

Their story…  We met at The University of Texas at Austin. We were in the same biology class our freshman year of college and always sat in the back row during lectures but never managed to approach each other. A couple years later, I went to “80s night” at my favorite bar called Barbarella and Alejandro spotted me dancing on my own. He grabbed my hand, finally introduced himself, and the rest is history!

A few of the flowers included throughout were poppies, roses, peonies, and bougainvillea. All the faves!

Gabriela says, The biggest planning hurdle actually took place on the weekend of our wedding. We had been planning on an outdoor cocktail hour and al fresco dinner but the unpredictable Texas weather had something completely different in mind for us. The temperature unexpectedly dropped from 80 to nearly 40 degrees overnight, and thankfully the Wild Sky Events team was able to come to the rescue last-minute. They relocated our vendors and cocktail hour layout to the indoor ballroom, added tarps and heaters to warm up the dinner area, and set up a display of blankets and hand warmers for guests, among other things.

One last bit of advice: I urge other brides to always create a detailed Plan B or hire a planner who can take care of it for them, but at the same time try not to stress over weather or other aspects of wedding planning that are out of their control. Although it wasn’t the sunny spring wedding we had originally envisioned, the changes made our day more unique and memorable and I honestly wouldn’t change a thing about it if I could!

Cheers, G + A! We’re enamored with your spring-turned-winter style.
