Mexican vintage-inspired wedding at Howl Long Beach

Friday already!? And nothing screams Friday like a couple that was on the dance floor so long, they totally missed their cake cutting and didn’t even bat an eye. Ellyse + Jeffrey were on a budget, but that didn’t stop them from incorporating her Mexican heritage (including that rad Frida Kahlo-inspired flower crown!), her dad’s 1960s Impala, and lots of fun, vintage Long Beach inspired details throughout. Thanks to Victoria Gold Photography and Janell Pomeroy for sharing the deets!

Ellyse says, Howl is right in Downtown Long Beach, around the corner from the bar where our dating relationship started. Long Beach is our home and the setting for so much of our relationship that we wanted it to be a part of the wedding as well. Besides that, Howl is gorgeous and offered a great mix of beautiful indoor and outdoor space.

Fun fact: Ellyse + Jeffrey broke up about six times before realizing they we’re totally meant to be together. But he proposed in Yosemite, while a mama deer and her young were frolicking around them… So, it was kiiinda a sign!

As for flowers, they went with whatever was looked best at the LA flower market the day before! Cakies, if you haven’t been to the LA flower market, you’ve gotta get yourself there, stat!

We booked our venue just about 10 months before the day and pretty much everything after that was a blur. If I could offer one piece of advice it would be to solicit the help of your friends and family early and often. Everybody wants to help, but you need to give them something to do! The biggest hurdle we had was probably the bar–we had to hire from a list of approved vendors and the one we were working with was ghosting us even two weeks before the wedding when we needed to get our plans finalized. We ended up asking the venue to let us bend the rules a bit so we could hire someone else last minute. This was really frustrating and scary, but the bartender that we found last minute, Mr. Bee, totally came through for us and ended up being one of our best vendors.
