Romantic Savannah destination wedding: Marianne + Michael

Marianne + Michael both love details. From family photos sprinkled throughout to the DIY dessert table décor to the tooth cake toppers (just wait…) inspired by their love story that began in dental school, they were all about personalizing their venue. Even the location itself was a nod to their history—a road trip to Savannah from New Jersey was the first trip they ever took together. Thanks to photog Izzy Hudgins + Ivory and Beau—two pros our bride swears by—for sharing their day!

M found Colonial House of Flowers on Instagram, and Christy worked her magic with lush, natural florals in the bouquets and the table garlands you’ll see below.

The bride explains, Izzy Hudgins was the first person I wanted to book. She is just such an amazing photographer. Not only is her work brilliant, but she is the sweetest. We were super nervous about feeling awkward while taking pictures, but after our engagement shoot, we couldn’t wait for our wedding. She makes you feel so at ease and captures the most intimate moments. She just knows what you want and delivers x1000.

As far as DIY projects, Michael made the lawn games, they made a map of their travels together, fans for the ceremony, the cake table banners, s’mores bar, chalkboard signs, and Savannah themed gift bags complete with local goods, and of course—special toothbrush kits with their names. Super cute!

We wanted a rustic venue and when we got to Old Fort Jackson, the vision came alive. We loved that we could make it our own and tailor it to our style. We brought in a lot of vintage furniture and set up the space to have a cocktail hour on the top platform. We then made the lawn area a space where people could play games. We had our guests transition to the covered pavilions for dinner/dancing. We wanted our guests to feel like they were in a different space during the cocktail hour/reception, but also feel comfortable playing games/spending time up on the deck/ or making s’mores later in the night if they didn’t want to dance.

How cute is this setup? And here’s that sweet tooth (ha!) cake topper the bride’s best friend (also a dentist) whipped up for them:

My favorite moment from the day was the ride from the ceremony to the reception. We had the windows down in our vintage getaway car, the air was warm but there was a slight breeze and there was just such a calmness surrounding the both of us. The happiness on that ride was unforgettable. We were just so thrilled to have the most perfect day with all of our friends and family in the most picturesque city. We wanted our wedding day to be about us and our lives together and just having that moment of stillness on the drive where it was just the two of us was magical.

Cheers to M + M!
