Fall dinner at home shoot + portraits

These intimate dinner-at-home photos are the perfect inspiration for an anniversary or engagement shoot. Really, really perfect. Meiwen Wang’s soft, warm photos captured the autumn harvest feel in Nick & Bay’s home and the meals they cook together, which was exactly what they wanted to document in their new cookbook. Their company, comewecreate, started as a personal chef + catering service in 2013, and quickly led to production, styling, and their book Living the Mediterranean Diet. (They now do everything from food styling to branding.) Meiwen’s style spoke to them for the autumn spread, which says a lot considering they do so much photography themselves!

Meiwen integrates emotion and feeling into her photos, tells a story about life and love and seasons and change. In the cookbook, it’s us, Meiwen, and our good friends Dulcet Creative. Everything is done naturally—there’s no big lights or screaming settings. It’s real and its raw and it’s all about the food, the people, and the moment—the integration of all of those things.

Can’t you just feel how perfectly Meiwen captured Nick and Bay’s personalities?

The story behind the photos…

Meiwen ventured from our home in Costa Mesa to our new home in Tustin once we moved in with Nick’s grandma, Glo, to shoot some photos for the Autumn section of the cookbook. Meiwen has a unique spirit about her where she can venture from place to place and glean what she needs to from the surroundings—she’s intuitive. She’s deep in a lighthearted sort of way. The day she came over for the autumn shoot she ate sweet potato gnocchi with us and admired the roses in the garden and spoke with Gram extensively despite any sort of barriers they encountered. Gram has Alzheimer’s disease and she loved Meiwen—she thought she’d known her for years. Gram loved the photos. Gram loved the food. Gram loved the moments she was able to experience through these photos – and those are the things that will stick with us forever.
