A year of marriage, or 5 or 20, is always worth celebrating, so when Beth + Zach shared the journey they experienced during their 12 months of marital bliss, we couldn’t wait to share. To represent the four different locations they lived in – Portland, Washington DC, New York, and Visalia, CA, their shoot was styled to be a little bit rural and a little bit urban. After seeing how much fun Primary Petals had with the floarals + styling of this shoot, you’ll see why we’re totally smitten with it.

Here’s a little bit from them to describe their first year to go along with that adorable illustration:

We had always expected marriage to be full of surprises, and yet there was no way we could expect our first year to take us on a journey that spanned the entire nation, that found us dealing with the loss of loved ones, the farewell to old friends, the formulation of new friends, and the triumphant return to those we love once again. Together we traveled through the mountains of California into Oregon, and were abruptly swept away East where we voyaged from DC to New York, experiencing cities of vast differences and similarities, until departing back to Beth’s hometown of Visalia where we found ourselves staying, despite original plans to traverse the country once again. What we discovered was that no matter where we were, or where we would set off to next, together we were always at home. We’re excited to see where home takes us next.

  1. this is exactly what I need! because my wedding photos were really terrible, we don’t have ANY to show. Then, now that we celebrate our fifh anniversary I would like to have some gorgeous pictures as he ones you show. The problem is that I live at Barcelina (Spain) and I don’t know any professional to make this job… any suggestion?

  7. Haha – I’m with Maartje. They are beautiful photos though. I might consider a special five year shoot or even 10 year, but first year is pretty soon after. :)

  14. I don’t know about you, Maartje and Little Vegas Wedding, but my first year of marriage was not easy, and I found that every year is definitely worth celebrating. Considering all the changes that this couple went through in their first year, they have every reason to have a first anniversary shoot. The creative couple are also blessed enough to be surrounded by talented friends who helped them commemorate their anniversary. Lovely work, ladies!

  15. What a cute couple. Your photography was great. I love your photos and how you take shots. Well done.

  16. Thank you everyone for the kind words. Zach and Beth have such a unique story and their first year was definitely very full of adventure, loss, love and travel – - one to be celebrated and documented. I agree with Jasmine, every milestone in marriage should be one of celebration, in whatever form a couple sees fit :) I really loved this shoot, it’s fun to work with couples who are relaxed and don’t “need” the photos for Save the Dates or for their wedding, it was definitely refreshing to work without the added pressure for a change. Zach and Beth had fun and were able to be natural because of this. Thanks again to Sam who coordinated the shoot and all the other hands who helped :)

  17. Absolutely stunning photography, but then those two just can’t take a bad picture!
Happy first (and second…and third…and infinity) anniversary!

  18. All your details are absolutely stunning. Dresses are truly gorgeous

  19. I noticed she had succulent flowers on her belt, cake and flower arrangement. Very pretty and amazing how popular they have suddenly become.

  20. Such a warm and lovely shoot, and that illustration is adorable! I missed the boat with our first anniversary…but we might just have to opt for a shoot for year two! ;)

  21. I absolutely adore this shoot. We had our engagement pictures shot at LA Historic Park and I really really wish we did venture out to the FarmLab. There are a few (good) portrait shots that I wish my husband and I had at our wedding, and I was considering doing an anniversary shoot to make up for it.

Thank you for sharing these! And congratulations to the couple on celebrating this milestone, and I hope to many more :)

  22. I absolutely adore this shoot. We had our engagement pictures shot at LA Historic Park and it was a little disappointing because the knoll was all fenced off. I wish we also had ventured out to the Farmlab like the couple did. There are a few (good) portrait shots that I wish my husband and I had at our wedding, and I was considering doing an anniversary shoot to make up for it.

Thank you for sharing these! And congratulations to the couple on celebrating this milestone, and I hope to many more :)
