Picking the perfect bridesmaid dress

July 6, 2012

As an event coordinator & stylist, Sarah Tucker has seen her share of brides experience the drawbacks of choosing the perfect bridesmaid dress. You want something your party will feel great in and might actually wear again, yes? After having a great experience as a bridesmaid herself, wearing the dress long after the wedding it was meant for, and hearing the question, “Where did you get that dress?”, Sarah decided to team up with Jessica Lorren Organic Photography and Camilyn Beth (the designer who made the custom dress for Sarah) to create the concept of this shoot.

Pretty little peek at how Camilyn Beth sketches her dresses beforehand.

When coming up with the concept I kept thinking of my favorite moments as a bridesmaid. I adored the moments before the wedding. Such a precious, sacred, and often giddy time. I envisioned girlfriends getting ready, feeling comfortable and amazing in their Camilyn Beth dresses, sipping delicious drinks (ahem, lavender lemonade infused with vodka), and enjoying each others company.

They all leave you with a few tips on curating seamless looks for your girls:

* Choose your color palette. This doesn’t have to be the colors of your wedding per se. It can be colors you find in your venue, your favorite colors, or just colors that complement one another.

* Give your maids some guidelines. If you don’t want them to wear something that’s floor length or one shoulder, let them know. They can’t read your mind.

* Show them examples of what you like. A fun way to do this is to create a Pinterest board. This way you can add images that express the vibe you’re going for!

Now have some fun with it! Call up your party and plan a girls day to gab about dresses!
