Crafty Colorado wedding: Cheryl + Scott

Categories   Real Weddings

We’re going to end the week with a little bit of nature, a touch of rustic charm, a whole lot of crafty goodness, and a couple that knows how to have a good ole’ time. Cheryl + Scott wanted the theme of their wedding to hinge on the experience of their venue. This meant crafting an adventure from point A (driving an hour down an 11 mile dirt road), to point B (coming upon a magical place guests might never have experienced, Piney River Ranch). Their motto (which is the cutest): A lucky place. Our favorite people. Lots of land. Kick up your heels. Celebrate love.

I designed my own invitations and printed them with Moonlight Letterpress. It was my first big letterpress print job—very challenging! I illustrated, designed and hand assembled them myself which saved a lot of money. However, the 100% Crane Cotton paper, letterpress die, and postage was a bit expensive. The budget for the Save the Dates, Invitation, Thank you (that was attached to the homemade jelly), RSVP and Thank You cards was about $900.

My favorite DIY project was the seating chart. The logo for the venue was symbolic of a tree stump, so Scott and I found old broken aspen branches in the forest, cut them in to little wafers, drilled holes for bakers twine and those became our escort cards — names on one side, with a stamped table # on the other. I bought the old frame for $5 and the vintage map for $5 at a local vintage flea market. The entire project probably costs $15.

We’re loving the fabric chandelier Cheryl made using leftover scraps of fabric.

We used a colorful assortment of succulents, yellow billy balls, dahlias, ranunculus, white stock, green euphorbia, blueprum, poppy pods, orange safflower and wild grasses for our arrangements. To save costs, we had our florist do the all of the big arrangements – the bouquet, cake, and guest table. For the arrangements that went on the tables, we just plopped little bundles that my florist provided into vintage jars. This turned out to be way cheaper than having her assemble everything. I provided my florist with two key flower arrangement pieces – a old vintage fishing basket that I found at an antique store (in keeping with the venue theme) and a bark-themed vase for the cake table.

The music was an eclectic mix of bluegrass, some alternative (Avett Brothers, Donavon Frankenreiter, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, White Stripes), and some G love, Beyonce…you know – the stuff that gets the crowd to hit that dance floor hard! Their first dance was to Jason Mraz, I’m Yours, Father/Daughter dance to Stevie Wonder’s, Isn’t She Lovely, and the Mother/Son dance was to Sheryl Crow’s, Sweet Child O’ Mine.

Cutest little cakes we’ve seen! Not to mention those bright crocheted doilies.

Wishing we could escape to Colorado and get ourselves lost in the beauty of Piney River Ranch. Thank you Cheryl + Scott for sharing such a fun wedding in one of the most prettiest places!

Lovely, particularly the handmade invitations. We did that for our wedding last summer, and while it took a good amount of time, it was well worth it in the end.
