Homespun outdoor wedding: Lisa + Gary

September 16, 2011

Another fabulous week checked off the calendar! Before we leave you to your weekend carousing, we’ve got a few last gems for you – first off the wedding of two of our favorite vendors from The Wedding Artists Collective, Lisa + Gary. With a budget of $12k this graceful bride and dapper groom, invited 50 of their closest friends & family to partake in their eclectic, laid back, homegrown style wedding. We’re excited about this one. It’s not everyday we get to share the wedding of the talented peeps behind the camera!

Gary hand painted all the signs using found wood. Between us, he’s the crafty one and from the very beginning said he wanted to take the creative lead on those. I was really happy to have a creative and interested partner in this project! I don’t know how most brides feel, but I can truly say this was a 50/50 collaborative effort.

For our invitations and rsvp’s we went through a vendor we found on Etsy, Aurelisas, who offers simple vintage telegram style invites. We then used decorative (air mail looking) tape to personalize them and used our G&L logo stamp on the outer envelope. We also made luggage tags as an invitation to the cocktail party we hosted the night before the wedding. All together for our save the dates, invites and rsvp cards, we spent under $250 for the paper, rubber and wood block stamps, antique postage stamps.

We absolutely love the way Josh captured the couple in these timeless prints! They have us dreaming about seeing an entire wedding shot in this format.

Gary also hand painted and assembled the mailbox at our “guest book” table. We asked everyone to type us a note and put it inside the mailbox. On our one year anniversary we’re going to crack it open and read the notes. Gary also made the board with chicken wire so we could include old family photos mixed in with Polaroids that had been taken by our friends throughout the week leading up to the wedding.

We wanted to have our wedding somewhere in upstate New York, and wanted to make it a wedding “week” not just a weekend. We didn’t want to use a proper wedding venue since it can be difficult to really make it feel like your own, not to mention, expensive, so we found a house on VRBO (big enough to fit a bunch of our friends), and the renter, though hesitant at first, decided to let us host the wedding there. Our families rented houses nearby so they could easily come out and spend time with us. It turned out great!

For his “speech” to the couple, one of their guests (esteemed Rock and Roll photographer, Danny Clinch) sang a duet with his daughter and three of their friends on guitar. They sang “Hey Good Lookin” by Hank Williams.
