When our eyes first met Shayna & Justin’s wedding, spotted in Issue Five of rue magazine, we felt like we nearly died and gone to styling heaven. How could this wedding be so, so, so, what’s the word? – Right. The answer is simple. Plan a party – not a “wedding”, have it be obvious that your passion and your taste for life is embedded into every detail, and have there be activities for your guests to participate in or sit back and enjoy (like a magician, or live watercolorist!).

Six weeks after their secret City Hall wedding, the couple threw the “Alexander Wang-ish dinner party” they sought out.

We could all dream of booking a venue that literally sits as a blank canvas when starting out. That’s why we’re so envious at the sight of this glowing-white photography studio. High-five to those of you that are able to book one of these babies for your reception!

This gold, sleek black & white palette, with hints of green, highlights the couples’ love of art, which will become more evident in the photos below.

Shayna created this incredible 5′ by 5′ patchwork portrait of both her and Justin to welcome guests as they arrived. We love the emphasis it gives on who they are – what an entrance! Those adorable bits & pieces you see in the bottom right – those are watercolors. Hand-painted watercolors of dresses, shoes, ties, jewelry, and trinkets worn by guests. Aside from the fact that these cuties were painted live and displayed throughout the night, we can’t help but think of what a perfect keepsake it would make to have them together in one album, or placed in over-sized picture frame.

Love! And as a bonus, we have a little video of the set up from You + Me to share too. Head over to the latest issue of rue magazine for more deets!

Absolutely stunning. Where are those earrings from? I love a dramatic stud.
What a fun reception!
Mara! Those stunning earrings are from a private jeweler named Jim Levinson in Manhattan. Seems like he may be working on getting a website up. In the meantime he’s by appointment only. Good Luck!

Where can one find lanterns that large (in that style)? They are fantastic. As is the rest of this event!

Where did you get the whiteboards? Love that idea!
Whiteboards were from Urban Outfitters!
The earrings in the picture were from my vintage jewelry collection.
Pictures of others will be on our website in the next few weeks.
Thanks for asking about them.
