Charis Rowland Photography + friends Kaleb and Ashley are the kinda folks who make you want to do something spontaneous. An initial idea to travel to Iceland became an epic adventure where they ended up with this stunning elopement editorial. They even caught up with Wear Your Love, who let them take a lovely organic lace wedding dress along for the ride. Charis says, From there it was just a matter of gathering a few accessories and foraging in the Icelandic countryside to throw together a bouquet. Sounds magical if we do say so ourselves.
Charis’ subjects Kaleb + Ashley have actually been married for four years… So following the theme of today, these made pretty incredible anniversary snaps.
Charis says, We knew we wanted a look that would fit with the landscape. Ashley’s dress needed to be hike-able too. The Kayla dress from Wear Your Love was perfect because it was super lightweight and actually folded up in my suitcase. We just hung it in the back of our Explorer and the slight wrinkles fell right out in the damp air. For Kaleb we wanted something that looked put together but very casual and a little rugged. I was elated when we found the floral shirt from J. Crew because I knew the muted colors would look killer with all of the greens and dark grays of the landscape.
Their journey took them to the Skógafoss waterfall, an abandoned plane wreck on the black sand beach, and Reynisdrangar basalt columns and rock formations.
We talked about reaching out to a local florist for a bouquet but since we were mostly just flying by the seat of our pants on this adventure we decided to simply forage for some greenery to add that finishing touch. We were actually camping on this trip so it was pretty entertaining trying to get the two of them photo-ready. There was lots of changing next to the car and doing makeup and hair in the backseat!
