We love when we get the chance to peek into the workspaces of some of our fave creatives – and what better day than a Friday to sit back and be inspired? The Wedding Artists Collective sent over these images from their studio visit with the gals behind Firefly Events, and we’d never miss an opportunity to share a little BTS action with you, too.

Founded 5 years ago in Teissia’s Los Feliz, CA studio apartment, Firefly is a completely full service planning and design company that aims to create beautiful, personal, and unique events and weddings. They’ve been based out of NY for the last few years, but Teissia brought on Alia long ago knowing that she’d soon reopen a California HQ… and guess what? They’re officially opening a downtown LA office in January 2015 (with Alia at the helm). Exciting!!

Doesn’t their workspace just make you want to get creative?

Wedding planning tips from the Firefly team:

  • Be realistic about your budget, time, and expectations for the big day. Answering these questions truthfully will provide a great framework for planning! If parents or other family members are going to be involved in the planning process, have a talk with them about these three points as well. The more clearly you can define everyone’s role, the better.
  • It’s important to hire vendors you trust and get along with, both personally and aesthetically. This goes doubly for your wedding planner! You’ll be spending a lot of time with them over the next year, so a good connection is key. Also, keep an open mind to new ideas or suggestions that they may have. We look at amazing weddings all year long, and we’re often able to spot (and create) new trends before anyone else.
  • Hire wedding professionals! These days there are so many amazing and diverse people working in the industry. These people will know the right questions to ask, and will have the right equipment to do the job.

Alia, on finding inspiration in unlikely places: We always look at the weddings and events we work on as an opportunity to create an inclusive atmosphere or environment. We recently worked with a couple who brought us a picture of an ivy covered wall in the backyard of a Brooklyn restaurant. They loved the feel of that picture and wanted their wedding to have the same vibe. We used this as a jumping off point and created suspended greenery installations all over their venue, which had tons of exposed brick. We also used candle light centerpieces on the majority of the tables to give everything a warm and welcoming glow. By the end of the planning and design process, we had created something completely unique and unexpected but also beautiful and festive. We loved this because it proves that inspiration can come from anywhere! Even a brick wall.
