If you’ve caught the midwinter blues, allow this this striking, ethereal editorial photographer D’Arcy Benincosa sent our way to remind you that there is beauty in every season. (*Pauses to ponder the obvious metaphor here.*) D’Arcy invited floral phenom Jessica Logan Designs to channel the feeling of each season through four original headpieces. And who better than Leanne Marshall to provide gowns that flow seamlessly from one season to the next? See all four brilliant looks below:
Jessica began with winter, creating a crown fit for an ice queen, with ice frozen, bursting, and melting onto her shoulders.
This Leanne Marshall ensemble is fittingly the Raincloud skirt and Raine top.
Gah!!! Time to move on to spring (and another incredible look)…
The team was inspired by the art of Alma Tadema, a Dutch painter known for textural romantic paintings in monochromatic palettes. They were also inspired by Alphonse Mucha for an art nouveau vibe.
Jessica explains, I knew originally before selecting the gowns, that a detail I wanted to execute for Spring specifically was to have two halos on top of the crown to symbolize the beginning cycle of the seasons. The quote “Springtime is the land awakening” inspired the idea of the flowers emerging from the ground up creating growing gardens on either side of the crown.
Leanne Marshall’s Darcy dress showcased delicate embroidered florals with beautiful billowy sleeves that really tied in the feeling of spring flowers with a sense of royalty. Spring became very playful with flowers that had a bounce to them and created a sort of floral wig and ode to Marie Antoinette. This was the most detailed crown and ended up taking a whole day to work on as each small piece was meticulously designed and placed.

Fun fact: the plan wasn’t originally to go *so* vibrant, but after seeing this gown, how could they not?! The front pleating reminded Jessica of sun rays, which ultimately inspired the look and feel of the crown.
I came to the conclusion it was best for summer to be the vibrant yellow palette and create a crown that matched all the amazing structural lines and vibrancy. The concept I had in my mind was to create a crown that felt like a sun goddess with a sun rising from a hilltop of blooms. It also almost creates this feeling that the rays of the sun could almost be blinding with its vibrancy and detail. “Summer has filled her veins with light”—C Day Lewis
And finally, fall…
Prettiest autumn vibes. So perfectly representative of that fall feeling, don’t you think?
This was the crown I was the most excited about as it is one of my favorite color palettes to design with. Fall also happens to be my favorite season and the dress we selected for this season was everything! This crown felt the closest to the original artist inspiration with a whimsical romantic feeling, wild moments of foliage, with a base of mushrooms, rust colored yarrow, dried protea flowers and my favorite fall colored rudbeckia. This piece was meant to feel like a lush statement piece before the transition into winter.
