Things are just right in the world. Mad Men is back, Love Me Sailor is sharing rad photos of Steffani + Linton’s wedding, and as always, Jesi Haack delivers on the details + decor. With a palette of soft, neutral pastel colors and lots of cheerful textures everywhere, Jesi went to town creating fabric stuffed hearts used for a ceremony backdrop, a garland made of oversized colored balls, a yarn covered backdrop to hold 182 escort cards, and a super original wooden heart guest book where guests signed a “puff” ball. So many fresh ideas in this one that are sure to inspire!

We agree with Steffani – Amber Moon of Pitbulls and Posies is uhh-mazing and can make anyone lust over paper goods. She created a suite that was both textural and interactive. First off they were laser cut. Second, their response card included a needle and yarn so guests could stitch in their reply. Cuteness to the max.

Megan of Honey and Poppies created dreamy bouquets in the style and tone of their wedding. The bridal bouquet was a big, lush arrangement that included garden roses, black and white anemones and dinnerplate cafe au lait dahlias mingling with dusty millers and berzilia berries. The bridesmaids bouquets were a variety of Kale and King Protea, and the boutonnieres had clusters of berries and foliage.

Get a load of their adorable guest book. Jesi cut out a huge wooden heart, placed bundles of puff balls with glued on circles of paper for guests to write on and place on the heart.

Star list of vendors + a sweet bride and groom = perfect way to start off the week! Congratulations Steffani + Linton!

We’re coming full circle with Amanda + Stephen. Last year we shared their carnival engagement sesh, today we share their wedding! The seafoam green bridesmaid dresses, letterpress invitations, potted favors, bushel baskets full of herbs as centerpieces, vintage desk covered in succulents to hold their escort cards, and everything in between – it’s all winning us over. You kind of forget you’re on a ranch and instead feel like you’re enjoying an afternoon in a chic secret garden with all the different textures of black and white and hints of soft aqua. Amanda told us she has a dream to someday have her own farm, and based off her wedding we can already imagine it would be the prettiest farm animals could ever live on.

illustrated wedding invites

Amanda on achieving this pretty letterpress invites all on her own: When I started planning the wedding, I fell in love with the look and feel of letterpress. After doing a little research, I found out it was prohibitively expensive, so I started taking printing classes at the Irvine Fine Arts Center. I ended up designing and printing the entire invitation suite myself, and I fell in love with printmaking so much that I am in the process of starting my own stationery business. For the press plates, paper, and renting the press, I spent under $200 for a fully custom invitation suite, including the RSVP and map.  (That doesn’t include the classes of course, but I got a new hobby and maybe career out of it, right?)  I bought the envelopes and paper at The Paper Source, but take it from me, if you want a really great impression, buy heavier stock paper than cover stock.  That is the one thing I would change if I could do it over again.

Bring on the music: Since Stephen and I met because of our love of music, we knew we wanted our music to be unique and special to us. I walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of “Maps,” by the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, and our first dance was to “If I Were a Bell” by Ella Fitzgerald. We were very fortunate to have Stephen’s good friends DJ Cassette and Count RockULA play the music for our wedding as a gift to us, and they were absolutely wonderful.  But the absolute most special part of the day was when Stephen sang “Thank You” by Led Zeppelin to me, accompanied by two of his groomsmen. It was an absolute surprise, and I have never been as touched as I was at that moment. I will never forget it.

Hearing how they met is too cute: Stephen and I met through our siblings, Sammi and Jeremy. I wanted to start a band, and I needed a drummer, and Stephen had been a drummer in a couple bands, so Jeremy introduced me to him. We had “band practice” a few times, and then started dating. The band never came together, but we got married anyways. And Sammi and Jeremy are set to get married next December, so it worked out all around!

Guests searched for their name and table in this vintage library card catalog. The entire setup of their escort card table is gorgeous, isn’t it? Sets such a romantic mood.

diy plant place cards

Adorable favors! Amanda bought 180 tiny terracotta pots, painted them black and had her mom and good friend Linda plant them with tiny white flowers. She then created 180 tiny paper sculptures, including bunting, tiny paper airplanes, medallions, and more, where she wrote each guest’s name. This project obviously took months, but it’s so creative and what guest wouldn’t feel honored that you spent the time to make them this thank you gift (that they can take home and replant)!

diy table decor

We get all weak in the knees when we see pretty paper details. We love how Amanda tied in the design from the invitations throughout the menu’s and activity cards on each table.

Super excited to share this wedding with you for a couple of reasons, one being that it gives us the opportunity to thank all of you for being so amazing. When Jessmy told us she started an Etsy shop because of the overwhelming response she received from selling her wedding items in our Marketplace, we wanted to hug her. So thank you! And now the vibrant wedding of Jessmy + Andy – there are glittery shoes and mint dresses to look at!

From Jessmy: Although, traditionally, being Indian brings to mind, lots of color, luxurious fabrics and gold/silver, it represented only part of who I had grown into and who we were as a couple.  Shades of ivory, beige, burlap and dull gold helped to echo the Japanese essence of simplicity that represented the years of our lives in Japan.  The scarfs that the groomsmen wore, the dinner table linens and burlap runners, single bud vases, latte dahlias, white freesia’s and ivory stocks all represented the Japanese sensibility of subtlety and textural minimalism.  It was our Wabi – Sabi.

All the draping fabric you see on the arbor are antique saris that Jessmy’s mother found in India.

We’re going to end the week with a little bit of nature, a touch of rustic charm, a whole lot of crafty goodness, and a couple that knows how to have a good ole’ time. Cheryl + Scott wanted the theme of their wedding to hinge on the experience of their venue. This meant crafting an adventure from point A (driving an hour down an 11 mile dirt road), to point B (coming upon a magical place guests might never have experienced, Piney River Ranch). Their motto (which is the cutest): A lucky place. Our favorite people. Lots of land. Kick up your heels. Celebrate love.

I designed my own invitations and printed them with Moonlight Letterpress. It was my first big letterpress print job—very challenging! I illustrated, designed and hand assembled them myself which saved a lot of money. However, the 100% Crane Cotton paper, letterpress die, and postage was a bit expensive. The budget for the Save the Dates, Invitation, Thank you (that was attached to the homemade jelly), RSVP and Thank You cards was about $900.

My favorite DIY project was the seating chart. The logo for the venue was symbolic of a tree stump, so Scott and I found old broken aspen branches in the forest, cut them in to little wafers, drilled holes for bakers twine and those became our escort cards — names on one side, with a stamped table # on the other. I bought the old frame for $5 and the vintage map for $5 at a local vintage flea market. The entire project probably costs $15.

We’re loving the fabric chandelier Cheryl made using leftover scraps of fabric.

We used a colorful assortment of succulents, yellow billy balls, dahlias, ranunculus, white stock, green euphorbia, blueprum, poppy pods, orange safflower and wild grasses for our arrangements. To save costs, we had our florist do the all of the big arrangements – the bouquet, cake, and guest table. For the arrangements that went on the tables, we just plopped little bundles that my florist provided into vintage jars. This turned out to be way cheaper than having her assemble everything. I provided my florist with two key flower arrangement pieces – a old vintage fishing basket that I found at an antique store (in keeping with the venue theme) and a bark-themed vase for the cake table.

The music was an eclectic mix of bluegrass, some alternative (Avett Brothers, Donavon Frankenreiter, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, White Stripes), and some G love, Beyonce…you know – the stuff that gets the crowd to hit that dance floor hard! Their first dance was to Jason Mraz, I’m Yours, Father/Daughter dance to Stevie Wonder’s, Isn’t She Lovely, and the Mother/Son dance was to Sheryl Crow’s, Sweet Child O’ Mine.

Cutest little cakes we’ve seen! Not to mention those bright crocheted doilies.

Marrying a professional graphic designer has its perks. And so does hiring Erin Hearts Court. For one, all of the design from the invitations to the programs, stickers, menu cards, escort cards, etc. etc. come out spot-on-gawgeous. Can you guess who the designer is? It’s Andrew, our groom. Then there’s the stellar photography of Erin Hearts Court. Nicole + Andrew envisioned a relaxed outdoor wedding on a breathtaking country-esque plot of land, and their photos – well, they tell that tale in the most beautiful way possible, starting with this sweet strapless polka dot tulle dress.

Since Andrew is a graphic designer he did all the print materials and invitations. We splurged on letterpress for the actual invitations. We had them printed at Quality Letterpress. The other print materials were not letter pressed and we had them printed at Sunset Press. Highly recommend – they’re both great to work with and printed everything super fast.

They had a string quartet play classical music during the ceremony and then some blue grass and old jazz standards through the cocktail hour. As far as the songs, the bridesmaid processional was, Air on the G-String,  brides processional was, Jesus Joy of Man’s Desiring, and for the recessional, Bill Cheatham.
