Amanda’s master bathroom design inspiration

January 11, 2018

Hia Cakies! A couple of us are currently doing some renovations on our home, so we did a poll on Instagram last week and wondered if you’d like us to show more interiors inspiration here and the answer was overwhelmingly YES, so here we go! I’ve been under a big construction project at my home for months and months now (which feels like years and years). We had to tear out our underground pool (sniffle) to make room for an addition, including a larger master bedroom, a new master bath, laundry room and renovated kids bathroom.

Our backyard isn’t that large, so there was no room to build out back. We kept our adjoining jacuzzi though, so that makes it a little less painful. I’ll be doing a post later on backyard designs for smaller spaces, but first let’s talk bathroom (my favorite part!). I’m such a sucker for all the tiles and patterns and hardware that goes into a bathroom design, so this project was right up my alley. I wanted a striking design but relaxing and spa-like. Here are some favorite photos I’ve collected along the way.

I’m so into the marble and gold fixture combos here, with a bit of edge. Le sigh.

But I also love raw natural materials like concrete to give it that Italian bathhouse feel. Can they mix? We shall see.

I’m assuming you’ve seen Jenna Lyons’ new home tour on New York Times? Every detail is just deeelicious. If only I could find (and afford) marble that looks like a Michelangelo masterpiece.

I’ve spent many an-hour on tile sites, scouring pages for pretty tile to adorn our floor and walls. Cletile, Fireclay, Ann Sacks, Arto, Beltile and Tierra y Fuego were a few places I looked. Much of this bathroom design was inspired by my travels.. particularly through Italy and Mexico. The tile throughout the floors in Italian gelato shops and cafes, and the warmth of stucco bathrooms in the Riviera Maya.

And here are the designs I landed on! A mix of classic vertical subway tile, hex concrete floor tile, and penny tile from Cletile, champagne gold fixtures from Wayfair, marble, gray stucco and white oak. Oh, and glammy little light fixtures from Cedar and Moss.

I can’t wait to see this bathroom come to life! Stay tuned in the next month for the big reveal, plus our kids bathroom design!
