Modern boho wedding at the Casino San Clemente

We’re pretty excited to show you Serena + Robbie’s wedding as captured by Plum & Oak Photo, and not just because it takes place at the ever-gorg Casino San Clemente. The whole coastal-meets-desert vibe is one of our faves for a California wedding, and given their love of all things white walls and plants, we had to see how they adorned the space. Spoiler alert, along with the help of Vanessa Noel Events, their design is totally up our alleys…

Robbie has spent countless weekends building furniture, shelves, plant hangers, curtains—you name it—for our home. I nicknamed him “Rob the Builder” and his creativity and resourcefulness are some of the things I most love about him. When we got engaged, we knew that we’d want to incorporate several handmade elements into the design. First, Robbie designed our Save The Dates to resemble an album cover, using a picture from our engagement shoot with Plum & Oak Photo. It was so special to send this out to guests and give them a taste of what to expect at our wedding. He also spent months building our sweetheart table, sweetheart table backdrop (inspired by the work of Aleksandra Zee), and escort table backdrop. We also made our cactus table numbers from pads we scavenged from an empty lot in our neighborhood.

BTW, for all you planning: At first they thought they’d only go for a venue that was 100% outdoors, but the Casino holds the reception in the Grand Ballroom, and they fell in love! The property has three different spaces for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, and they loved how everything flowed. Needless to say, one of Serena’s biggest tips is to stay open minded.

Robbie’s fave moment: Watching Serena walk down the aisle in front of everyone we know and love was a moment I will never forget. In that moment, it felt like I could imagine our entire lives together, and nothing else mattered. It was a feeling of complete happiness.
Serena’s fave moment: Right before we all lined up for our Grand Entrance, Robbie looked at me and said, “Can we do this every weekend?” Just seeing the pure joy he was feeling, made me so happy. I also loved reading our personal vows to each other. In that moment, I felt like Robbie and I were the only two people in the world.

Serena + Robbie loved having a sweetheart table, because it gave them a little alone time to take it all in. Oh, and their macrame table runner? A Goodwill find for 50 cents! Just goes to show you don’t *have* to spend a ton of money on decor.

Gotta love a venue so close to the beach you can sneak right down for portraits! See more in our inspiration gallery below:

Their proposal story, c/o our groom…  After 7 years together, I decided it was about time to pop the question. Music has always been a huge part of our relationship—we love going to concerts together, music festivals in San Francisco, and spending cozy nights in listening to my vinyl collection, so I knew the proposal would be centered around that. I asked Serena to come with me to a high school alumni mixer at the Terranea Beach Cove in Palos Verdes (which just so happened to be the first place I told Serena I loved her and gave her a homemade mixtape back in college). Of course, there was no alumni mixer, and instead I had a table set up in the sand with flowers and a record player spinning a custom pressed vinyl with some of our favorite songs, including Sea Of Love by Cat Power.

Cheers!
