October wedding in Colorado: Sarah + Skye

February 21, 2017

Can we just say that our brides are killing it in the gorg-wedding-on-a-budget department lately? Just this month we shared a budget-friendly backyard wedding and today we’ve got this Colorado wedding with 150 guests that Meg White captured all the deets of. See how it turned out below, including a few tips on how they pulled it off in four months for 23K (including the honeymoon!):

Skye had actually popped the Q right where they ended up having their first look photos!

Sarah says, Skye and I were born and raised in Colorado and love spending our time outdoors. So when we found Blackstone Rivers Ranch, the details fell right into place. As a graphic designer, it was fun to create our modern invitations and signage, which popped among the more rustic elements like the venue and florals. Nothing about our wedding was extravagant—I planned just about every part of it and we used a lot of our family and friends for help. But boy, it sure felt like us. We said ‘I do’ with the perfect light and a babbling creek behind us, ate pizza and donuts and shared it all with our friends and family.

Planning tip: Sarah asked Plum Sage Flowers about seasonal wildflowers and which blooms could make her bouquet rich and full but affordable. They ended up using scabiosa, astillbe, dahlias, eryngium, roses, agonis, and eucalyptus.

The large lyric banners were sheets from target that we hand-painted. My dad and I built our escort card display: we had people take Polaroids and replace their escort cards with a photo for our guestbook. I asked Zuri, the owner at Blackstone Rivers Ranch, to cut us a ton of tree disks to use for serving pizza. My dad created the little table card holders from a tree branch. I antiqued for all the platters we used for donuts and our cake stand. Lots of sourcing and finding things to use in place of spending money on rentals!

My advice to anyone planning their own wedding (on a budget) is to focus on two or three big ticket items—for us, it was the venue, flowers and photographer—and find the vendors you’re excited to work with! Also write a list of all the people who offer to help because when things start to get stressful (and they will get stressful) about a month before the wedding you’ll want to put those helpful hands to work. Don’t be afraid to ask for lots of help!

Cheers!
