Bridal fashion week trends by Solstice Bride

April 28, 2016

Did you catch our post on bridal fashion week trends by Lovely Bride? Today we’re showing you even MORE trends and gorgeous gowns that came straight from fashion week. This time we spoke with Orla Stiles, owner of Solstice Bride, to get her fave trends. Here’s what she had to say…

The Solstice Bride wants simple yet sophisticated. Nothing too fussy or overly thought out but something that will flatter her Pilates body, is made well, and allows her personality to shine through. Alexandra Grecco is always a great option for my brides because her gowns are timeless and romantic yet modern enough for a fashion forward bride. She can wear it walking down the aisle and bending over to hug her grandparents and then throw a leather jacket on and get down on the dance floor. One of my best selling styles is the Maia by Alexandra Grecco for its simplicity and impeccable construction. The Astrid slip gown from this season is an update on that gown and I know my bride is going to freak out when she gets this on her body.

I had a custom lace cape made for my wedding day, and I have been waiting FOREVER to pick up the perfect cape for our showroom. I actually squealed and clapped when I laid eyes on the Annika Cape from Alexandra Grecco. It is equal parts romantic, ethereal and modern.

Separates
This combo is classic and sexy and off the shoulder is a big trend carrying over from last season. The shoulders and collar bone are assets more women are playing up. Bridal separates great for that budget conscious bride, as the old adage “ you can wear it again” actually does apply to a silky camisole or simple chiffon maxi skirt. Bridal pant suits also have versatility and can be worn again.

Lightweight dresses
This is a silk crepe backless dress with a cutaway neckline and bow. The attention to detail on this one is to die and it would be flattering on all body types.

Jumpsuits + pantsuits
I can’t tell you how many requests I get for a cool white jumpsuit or pantsuit. While my bride often surprises herself by how “traditional” she is with her gown decision, deep down she’s still a cool chick and adding a jumpsuit into her weekend of wedding outfits reflects that. The pantsuit from Lakum is edgy, modern, tailored beautifully and can be worn as separates or together. The convertible jumpsuit from Twobirds is offered in a slinky jersey or white lace, and the straps can be twisted and tied to create a ton of different options. Plus, it’s under $400!

Statement accessories
Many of my brides are foregoing a veil and wearing simpler gowns with a statement hair accessory. The accessories at Bridal Fashion Week were very unique, many of them had an heirloom quality to them, handcrafted from gold, silver and even glass.

Molly of Stone Fox Bride did a partnership with fashionable plus size retailer Eloquii this season. She’ll be offering five of her best selling signature gown styles in sizes 14-24. About time! The most common style request we receive is “Carolyn Bessette Kennedy” so the Lucinda is our most tried on gown. Here’s Paloma modeling the new plus size version of the gown and not a detail was spared:

Lastly, we asked Orla about her personal faves…

I hate to play favorites but I saw a lot of gowns that my SoCal bride will eat up at Delphine. Her collection was filled with Impeccably tailored crepe + silk gowns with cutaway necklines, back detail and unstructured, lighter than air gowns with polka dot lace and sheer details. On top of beautiful gowns, the presentation was a welcome escape from the madness of the weekend. In the middle of bustling SoHo, the models floated though the garden at Lauduree while a Cellist serenaded guests munching on French pastries.

Sounds magical. Thanks to Solstice Bride for the lowdown!
