We know it’s spring, the posts we’ve been sharing are full of pastels and soft colors, but we’re pausing that for just this one time to share a wedding where all guests were asked to wear black. Photographed by Lauren & Abby Ross, and designed by Bash, Please, Kaylie + Richie’s wedding was just so striking to look at that we had to share. Kaylie wanted to mix the rusticity of the canyon with more elegant, feminine elements like a romantic bouquet and all lace gown. It really was such a beautiful celebration of their love.

Kaylie came to us already knowing where she was getting married and how much she wanted to create an unforgettable weekend for her friends and family. She had chosen El Capitan Canyon, an awesome camp ground full of yurts, cabins and tents, just north of Santa Barbara. Most guests arrived on Friday and were welcomed to the first event of the weekend – a Hollywood Forever Cemetery-inspired movie and dinner. We set up a big projector screen, lined the ground with tapestry blankets and comfortable pillows, and added a ceiling of soft string lights. Following the barbecue dinner, movie popcorn and candy was served. The morning of the wedding, Kaylie had arranged for one of her friends to lead a yoga class on one of the many open lawns at El Capitan.
Of course Saturday evening was the most important part of the weekend, and we were excited to bring to life what Kaylie had envisioned for her wedding day. El Capitan was the perfect backdrop for what Kaylie had in mind. The ceremony was on the lawn at the highest point of El Capitan, with the ocean peeking behind and the mountains of Santa Barbara surrounding them. Their chuppah was covered with lace fabric and greenery. Their guests were some of the most stylish we’ve seen at a wedding; all were wearing black or navy as invited to do so on their wedding invitations. Kaylie’s brother and grandfather officiated the ceremony, which added a sweet, personal quality.
Guests were shuttled from the ceremony to the reception space across the canyon. They found their seats by finding their calligraphed doilies, which led them to a picnic table covered with a custom lace doily runner, lots of candlelight, amazing florals from Fox Fodder Farms, cross-stiched table numbers, and custom menus. Following the family style dinner, the party really got started. Kaylie & Richie are both musicians, so music is incredibly important to them and their families. One of the best moments of the night came when Kaylie’s whole family – mom, dad, and brothers – got on stage and sang a song to Kaylie & Richie that they had written together. They had an awesome band perform comprised of their friends and band members for the first part of the dance party, then transitioned into a DJ (also a friend). Then they danced the night away!
