Happy Friday, Cakelets! We know you’re getting ready to check out of work early and get your three day weekend on, but before you head out we have a sneak peek at the Martha Stewart Weddings Fall 2012 issue, out today. One of the couples featured in the mag are New York based duo, Whitney + Parker. They tied the knot in Louisiana merging their city style and Southern charm. And yes, that’s a pink dress she’s got on. Enjoy this pretty little teaser, and grab a copy or download the issue onto your iPad for the rest. It’s perfect eye candy/reading for your weekend!

The Cream NYC

the Cream Event

We know, we’re a little tardy to sharing The Cream NYC party pics. If you didn’t get a chance to attend, join us in our little sad face boat. This was the first event we couldn’t make and feel pretty crummy about it. But, but, but… at least we still get to see the explosion of pretty that happened, yes? NYC + gold disco balls, giant gold balloons, gorgeous tablescapes, drinks, dance partaying, confetti. Obviously it was going to be rad. These photos by Les Loups, Our Labor of Love, and Rebecca Hansen say it all.

modern fashion swap party invites

Last month we shared Amanda’s pink pillow fight/burlesque bachelorette party, which is most def a fun way to celebrate with your ladies, and today we’re sharing another fun alternative. Mindy Kaisner’s idea: think shopping & appetizers in the comfort of your living room, with the twist of creating your own boutique for girls to bring accessories, purses, shoes, jewelry, belts, and scarves they’re no longer using to swap. Check it out and we promise you’re going to want to have one of these yourself.

This layered garland across the white mirror was created to reflect the current trend in layered accessories. By selecting four different strands and twisting them together, I created a new take on the ever popular party garland. Framed fashion sayings placed around the party also bump up the fashion theme a notch while adding originality to the decor.

As your guests arrive on party night, take the items and display them in creative ways throughout your living room. Display jewelry on vases and platters to show them off and clear off bookshelves and turn them into a shoe display. Have fun with it and think outside the box. Then, turn the girls loose!

hand painted bamboo utensils

We’ve been seeing a lot of these eco-friendly utensils floating around on Pinterest and love the idea of giving them a personal touch to fit your theme. A little paint or colored washi tape will do the trick. And why stop there? Love how Mindy hand painted the bamboo plates too!

For an added element to your party, consider having a make-up artist and hair stylist on hand. They can give you tips & ideas for freshening up your look. If you’re in the planning stages of your wedding, it’s a fun way to try out new styles for you and your bridesmaids.

new orleans outdoor wedding

We were so excited when Nancy Neil told us Michelle + Colby’s wedding photos were ready to be shared. After falling in love with these two, their taste in fashion, and their engagement photos, we couldn’t wait to ooh and awe at their wedding. So let’s ooh together over their rustic meets glamour plantation celebration in New Orleans. And just like we’d hope she’d do (she is a fashion designer after all), Michelle designed her wedding dress. Not only that,  she also swarovski-jeweled her shoes!

Great advice from Michelle: Have fun and enjoy every second. This is your one day to share your love with all of the people that mean the most to you in the world.  Take time with your husband and enjoy every bit of the day you worked so hard for. Things will go wrong, cakes may get smushed, important people may not be able to make it, family may push your buttons, your complete vision may not be met 100%…Who cares, let it all go and have a great time.  I always thought I would be so nervous the day of my wedding since I’m a Type-A personality but truth be told, when I woke up I was completely relaxed.  Even though things went wrong throughout the day, I brushed it off my shoulders and didn’t let any of it affect my mood. I knew I had to let go of control and enjoy.  I was able to be present and have a great time.  Our wedding went by so fast I wish it could have gone on for hours longer.

Congratulations Michelle + Colby!

ornate gold necklace

We’re all about accessorizing, layers of tulle, textures, ruffles, lace, and boleros. And so is Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the Shore. She styled this shoot using a few of her favorite blush, nude, and taupe dresses, and mixed them with an oversized bouquet (it really is pretty amazing, you’ll see) and antique elements from the historic home and garden, The Gardens at 222 in Ledyard Connecticut.

We’d kind of die if one of you walked down the aisle with an oversized bouquet like this. Amazing!

From Beth: Brides should not be afraid to add personality into their wedding wardrobe. If a bride is afraid to take too much of a risk, or she needs to appease her mother (hey, it happens), I recommend selecting a more traditional gown or accessories for the ceremony. Then, bring in more personalized elements for the reception. Switch out your jewelry, add a fun sash to the gown or change into a party frock. These are just a few ways to make a statement and to allow your personal style to shine through!
