Alrighty Cakelets! It’s time to close up until the new year. We’ll miss you all terribly, but to be totally honest, we need a break too!

It’s been an amazing year with you all, and if we could send each of you a personal holiday card in the REAL mail, we would… because you guys are definitely what makes 100 Layer Cake an inspiring, beautiful community. We’re looking forward to a week away from email and screens, (except our phones of course – must keep up with Instagram, after all), and the daily hustle in favor of some relaxed time with family and friends. We hope you all have a chance to enjoy the same.

We’ll be back in January with lots of beautiful weddings, and a really really rad sale in the Pop-Up Shop with Sarah Yates and Birds of a Feather Photography! Those of you getting engaged over Christmas (we know there will be a few of you!), might as well book a super awesome photographer first thing!

Merry Everything to all of you.

xoxo

Guess what’s on the stands on Monday, y’all? It’s the winter MS Weddings, and for an extra awesome treat it features the beautiful, heartfelt wedding of Jose Villa and partner Joel Serrato. They are truly two of the nicest guys (as anyone who knows them can attest!) and we’re so super happy to be part of the crew that’s sharing a few shots, by the beautiful Elizabeth Messina, from their wedding this morning.

“It was such an honor to capture Jose & Joel’s wedding….they are both such talented & kind men…i felt an incredible responsibility to document one of undoubtably the most special days in their lives with care…i wish them many happy years together.”  - Elizabeth Messina

Before we say our goodbyes for the year this afternoon, we thought we’d quickly show a teensy bit of awesomeness from Confetti System… the masters of sparkly, fringey, decor. Perfect for New Year’s Eve!

Hey, 2012!  You’re just around the corner and we can already tell you’re looking good. Just promise to be as full of sparkly pretty things as this shoot is, styled by Sarah Tucker Events. For any Cakelets taking the plunge and saying ‘I Do’ this New Year’s Eve/Day, we wish you the best! Everyone else, feast your eyes on this shoot, photographed by the dreamy Jessica Lorren Organic. Its southern mossy oaks served as the perfect backdrop for this New Years brunch inspired shoot and the sprinkles of gold shimmer have us wanting to bring out the sparklers!

The 1950s tea length dress with scalloped lace was picked out at Retro Rosies in Downtown Bradenton.  It’s a cute vintage shop with an entire room of affordable vintage wedding gowns and accessories all under $100!

The New Year’s inspired mask the bride is wearing was painted with metallic gold spray paint and fitted with soft pink velvet ribbon, and the romantic calligraphy seating chart by Rachel Carl & Co has mixed metallics to note the table numbers. It was fastened to an oak tree trunk on top of vintage pink lace that was once a dress.

Cookies and milk, a pancake tower, donuts, cake pops, gold mylar balloons, lace, pretty paper, metallics, pom tassles – these are the makings of a brunch fit for a new year!

In case the thought has crossed your mind, the answer is yes. You can plan a stunning wedding in NYC while living in London. You’d need a fab planner & stylist like Jillian Event Design as your go-to-execute-the-wedding-of-my-dreams gal, along with the best talents in NYC, but it can be done. While this wedding didn’t have a sit down dinner, the Getaway Car and the Rat Pack cocktails + mouth-watering raw bar is warning enough that this party was a success. It was romantic, loungey and has just the right amount of reds and warm indoor feeling perfect to share before the holiday weekend. All this without mentioning the signage. Fans of calligraphy and type, this wedding is to lust over!

Ladies, don’t ever miss a sample sale. That’s how Shannon found her Alice Temperley dream dress. Could it be any more perfect for a speakeasy themed wedding?

The best looking (little) men at the wedding, hands down, their two twin boys.

This is a bridal party we’d love to be a part of! Black gowns with black feather bouquets – classic.

Look closely and you’ll see their adorable twin boys in their arms during the ceremony. Fun note about the theatre style red curtains. Jillian bought them off eBay for $300 and The Foundry loved them so much that they bought them from her after the wedding was over.  Isn’t it a perfect addition to the space?

Waiting for them at the end of the aisle was this pyramid of champagne glasses. They made a toast to signify the party had started, and the rest was history.

The signage is amazing, right? Erica Miller of Thoughtful Day designed it all. To save on costs, Jillian had the signs printed instead of having the calligraphy written on the spot. Vinyl was used on the mirrors and the rest of the boards were printed to give them that chalkboard look.

During the beginning of the cocktail hour everyone rocked out to the sounds of The Renaldo Ensemble, a one-of-a-kind vaudeville band. Chris and Shannon would frequent their shows when they lived on the Lower East Side. You have to go check them out! During the second half of the cocktail hour the Hot Sardines took the stage and transported everyone back in time with their swanky jazz tunes.

Erica also designed the cute labels for their St-Germain bottled favors and Betsy + Emily of Nine Cakes took the design of their wedding invites (featured above in the green) and designed this stunning cake.

We’ll be here until Wednesday (before we take off on a much needed vaca), but this darling wedding will be our last real wedding of 2011.

Congratulations to Shannon + Chris!
