We love it when creative teams send in their gorgeous inspiration shoots. The more you can get us to say, “Ooo, why didn’t we think of that!” or “Omg! We have to try that at our next party!”, the better. So, when Rhiannon of Hey Gorgeous Events sent us these lavish photos by Tonya Peterson there was an instant thumbs up.

We’ve found the perfect balance of delicate femininity and rugged masculine. You’re not going to find any hot pinks here (although you know we love our pink). What you will see is a neutral palette that’s simple, organic, and works! The palette was inspired by this Nest and Petal inspiration board from Snippet and Ink. The setting: Crooked Creek Ranch – a must for anyone planning to get hitched in Northern Michigan with a venue to wow your guests.

Let’s hear from the styling master herself!

The guest book was a life size version of a traditional wish tree. I string pieces of fabric, lace and ribbon from a tree and then using a vintage vanity from the venue, set up a simple guest book station. There was a sign letting guests know to adorn shipping tags with well wished to the newlyweds before clipping them to the fabric and lace.

Michelle from Papertalk, as usual, did an amazing job with the paper products. Kraft envelopes and signs complimented the rustic vision, while elegant flourishes and fonts allowed the menus, thank you tags, signage, and invitations to feel more formal. The muted blush colour included through the stationary added that hint of femininity. And the menus, which doubled as each guest’s table number card were completely brilliant!

Liz from The Parsonage really outdid herself with the incredibly gorgeous floral design. I gave her a colour palette and then requested “full, fluffy, textured florals and any quirky blooms and greenery you can think of”. And, she did that exactly and more. The garden, spray rose, and peony centerpieces gave the tablescape substance and warmth. Against the red barn, the little springs of astilbe and ranunculus loosely tied into the arrangements also allowed the shoot to feel more organic and less structured.

For the cake structure I combined an aesthetically beautiful and feminine cake with a masculine rugged structure created solely out of vintage crates and boxes. The idea was to give the structure different dimensions, heights and textures. Kelly, went above and beyond with the cake design combining delicate ruffles and a large sugar peony with intricate gray embroidery designs.

Loving the twist on the traditional “cake table” happening here. And, that large peony made out of sugar? Yum! Thanks so much for sharing such talents with our Cakelets, Rhiannon!

It’s easy to forget that the temperature outside is rising as you take in the serene beauty that is Michele + Brian’s wedding. The fields, the surrounding hillsides, the bursts of bright dahlia’s and the personal touches sprinkled throughout are having us already looking forward to the changing of the season. Well, maybe not that soon -we’ll still welcome the sun for now!

Isn’t Michele’s Saja gown dreamy? The simple addition of a floral brooch is the perfect way to accessorize.

These colored flags have definitely made it on the top of our list as one of the best ways to decorate an already beautiful landscape. Don’t they remind you of The Gates? Here’s what Michele had to say about how the flags came to be:

We were getting married at the end of a large field in mid-October and knew that the surrounding hillsides would be starting to get bare. In order to add some additional bursts of color to the scenery, we decided to make giant flags to put around the field. Brian bought PVC piping and couplings to make the flag poles (while we were able to find pipes long enough to use for the poles, we had to cut them in half to transport them – so that’s when the couplings came in handy). He bought black spray paint and covered the PVC with it so it looked more polished. He also bought the pieces of fabric, and I seamed the edges, including sewing a rope into the seam on one end of the flag, which we used to affix them the poles.

Imagine having a quartet learn a particular song to play as you walk down the aisle. Now imagine that song playing in an open field. Romantic, right? That’s exactly what happened at this wedding. Any David Lynch fans out there? You’ll love this. “Lauren’s Walking” from the David Lynch film “The Straight Story” has been an all time favorite song of Michele’s, so she requested that the Baldwin Quartet play it as they walked down the aisle. We love that the quartet learned the haunting and melodic sounds of Angelo Badalamenti just for their day. Magical!

What made the ceremony very special was our officiant, Puja Thompson. She has an amazing presence which really carried through the ceremony. She began the ceremony by ringing a Tibetan singing bowl towards the four directions of the earth, which started the ceremony off in a beautiful way.

Amy Eisenstadt, our florist and close friend of mine since high school, took me to the flower market in Manhattan to pick out the flowers. Dahlias were in season so we chose those for their bright colors. I’m an avid gardener (even in our little Brooklyn backyard it’s possible!) so Amy made sure to incorporate fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, sage) from my yard into each floral arrangement. I bought mason jars to use for the table arrangements, and with three different sizes on each table holding bunches of three different colors of Dahlias – it gave the table the perfect amount of warmth and color we were looking for. She was amazing, took all of our concerns and needs into account and made it the most beautiful day with all of her little touches.

Congrats Michele + Brian! You’ll have us dreaming for more weddings with flags like yours!

Isn’t it lovely?

The couple is Alisa and Jared of Erstwhile Jewelry, an amazing online vintage jewelry shop. Have you heard of them? You should definitely spend a few moments on their site. Lots of interesting things to lust after.

And Jamie posted their home tour on her blog this afternoon! Be sure to pop over and check it out.

Thank you Jamie for sharing and Alisa and Jared for being so sweetly in love!

East Side Bride answers the question that lots of you might be asking too, even if you’re not in FMW’s exact situation. As always, we love her take.

Dear East Side Bride,

I really hope you can help me out. My fiance is deployed in Afghanistan, and we will get married a few months after he returns next year. Many of his closest friends will still be serving over there on our wedding day, leaving us with two groomsmen. I had hoped to have more bridesmaids, but have decided to stick to two for balance’s sake.

Is there a way for me to involve other girl friends in the wedding that isn’t something lame like standing by the guest book or reading a Bible verse? I am not tied to wedding tradition, so out-of-the-box ideas are welcome! I always imagined these girls taking a special part in my special day and thought you might be able to offer some suggestions.

Thank you!

- Future military wife

Dear FMW,

Please please please don’t cut anyone out of your bridal party just for the sake of symmetry. It’s going to mean so much to you to have your ladies standing up there with you, giggling and beaming at you and crying (which, I warn you, may set you off — but that’s part of the joy of getting married).

Putting four or five bridesmaids opposite your fiance’s two groomsmen might even serve as a positive reminder of the friends who can’t be there. Why not list them as “groomsmen (in absentia)” in the program?

XOXO,
ESB

Just to put it out there – we love our brides! Our minds are blown on a daily basis with how crafty and creative you all get with your weddings. That being said, we know a lot of you make and sell your own unique products and that’s why we’re super excited to tell you about Goodsie! (Apologies if you’re already aware of how awesome they are).

Goodsie lets you create your very own fully-branded personalized storefront. As mentioned in a recent article, one advantage of Goodsie over Etsy in particular is that shoppers often think of buying things “on Etsy”, rather than from a particular vendor. Goodsie allows you to use your own domain name and fully brand your store with logos, typography and more to make it your own.

It’s so easy-to-use (really, just watch the video on Goodsie.com). There’s no coding required and setup is a breeze. Ok, now to answer the question you might have on your mind, “How much?”. There’s one flat fee. Similarly, there’s no penalty for processing big orders (or many small orders) because they don’t charge transaction fees. Store owners (you!) can rest easy knowing they will only pay $15 per month, every month. Oh, and did we mention that you can upload an infinite number of your products with no penalty?

We’re in! So, all of you crafty brides (or just plain crafty ladies) whom we adore so much, go set up shop!
