Dear ESB: Help me accessorize my amazing dress, sans diamonds

April 19, 2011

Our lady East Side Bride takes on vintage jewelry shopping. Excellent break from the hum drum of Tuesday, don’t you think?

ESB,

Do you have any recommendations for jewelry to complement the lace dress I’m wearing this summer? My dress is being custom made but is inspired by the Erato by Elie Saab (available from Pronovias), which I spotted on Once Wed.

I know she looks beautiful in those diamond earrings her husband gave her, but I am not planning on getting a gift like that and was wondering what you could recommend??

Thanks!
Need Some Jewels.

Vintage rhinestones are just as cool as vintage diamonds. COOLER EVEN.

I’m really digging these 1940’s rhinestone earrings I found on Ruby Lane. (They’re clip-ons, unfortunately, but a jeweler can convert them to post-backs for you with relative ease.)

Buy them before they’re gone, or while away the hours searching Ruby Lane, eBay and/or Etsy for “vintage drop earrings,” “vintage rhinestone drop earrings,” “chandelier earrings,” etc.

(Editor’s note: Don’t forget to check out flea markets, antique malls, and local vintage stores too! They often have beautiful jewels and as a bonus, you can try them on.)
