Colorful citrus-inspired wedding: Christy + Dan

June 5, 2017
Rue de Seine wedding dress

Happy Monday, friends! Isn’t Christy’s Rue de Seine gown incredible? C + D’s wedding style was just as exciting: they essentially wanted the design to be like an all-out version of their dream home. That meant merging both their styles into a vibrant, citrus-inspired color palette with bohemian and mid-century touches. They landed their dream photog, Elyse of Plum & Oak Photo, with Kelsey Rae Designs as their coordinator and Native Poppy on those dreamy florals.

You can kinda see all their styles at work here, yeah? They also wanted to maintain a garden, organic feel for their 110 guests. Christy says, What was important to us was to have a unique and fun experience for our guests—one that represented Dan and I. That meant a killer venue with lots of different areas for people to explore and things for them to do, having great food and drinks, and to have decor, flowers, and photos that reflected our personal style.

Both Christy and Dan are super creative (she’s behind the graphic design at her family winery, Wiens Family Cellars) and took on tons of sweet DIYs for their day. She did all the calligraphy throughout, and he did the table numbers and seating arrangements. They also made paper bags filled with fruit for guest favors, with guest names, table #s, and food choice on them (see below!).

Besides incorporating her fave flower, ranunculus, in the bouquets, Christy enlisted Native Poppy to get creative with the rest of the florals. Natalie included poppies, Queen Anne’s lace, garden roses, kumquats, and more.

She even whipped up her velvet vintage choker herself!

I saw Green Acre in San Diego Style Wedding magazine and it immediately became my #1 place to see. Dan on the other hand was a little skeptical. We saw 6 places before Green Acre and only one (Francis Parker School) made our short list. When we arrived at Green Acre, we walked down the flight of stairs from the parking lot to the outdoor space and I 100% knew it was the one. The industrial-modern look mixed with the herb gardens and xeriscape hooked both of us. Once we walked the entire space Dan could see the vision just as much as I could and we were both hooked. It was quirky, modern, eclectic, and organic. Plus there were a lot of different areas for our guests to hang out–they didn’t just have to be stuck at their table the whole night. In other words, perfect! Also, it’s a Brian Malarkey restaurant so we knew the food would be amazing, and they let us bring in beer and wine from my family’s brewery and winery—a must!

C + D also did a first look, and it was one of their fave memories. Take a peek below and find the rest of the portraits in our gallery…

First look portrait

There was so much anticipation for the first look since neither of us knew what the other was wearing, and we so seldom see each other all dolled up. We’re so glad that we decided to do the first look instead of waiting until the ceremony to see each other. We got to enjoy the moment and be with each other before the whole crazy whirlwind started. Plus that meant that all our photos weren’t rushed. Overall I felt like the entire day, though it went by in a flash and we still don’t remember a lot of it, wasn’t rushed at all.

Cheers to Christy and Dan!
