Adventurous, charming destination wedding on the Isle of Mull in Scotland

Morning and happy New Year, Cakies! Isn’t this bridal party so cute with their rain boots and bouquets? Kaley + Ben are both creatives (she a photog and he a designer) who made their Scotland destination wedding a reality in just four months. And with planner + stylist Susie of Knot & Pop being from from Scotland, they were able to snag a perfectly dreamy, unconventional venue for their intimate, 15-person celebration. Thanks to India Earl for the photos below!

The ceremony was up in the highlands about half a mile away from Dalness Estate, where they were staying. Afterward, the ferry to their reception space, The Glass Barn at Isle of Mull Cheese, was a quick drive away.

Kaley says, The theme of our wedding was essentially a Scottish Adventure Wedding—one that mimicked a secret garden, fairytale, very intimate and romantic. We both love to travel and knew that we wanted something lush, something green and vast. We instantly thought of Scotland! We both come from small families and knew that having this type of destination wedding would be possible. Luckily, our friends and family were in full support and made the journey with us!

Kaley met India Earl at a photography workshop, and was blown away by her work: She’s incredibly talented and is the type of photographer who just sees it. She’s a feeler and she documents genuine emotion and is super comfortable and fun to be around. Her and Jay (her husband who shot video) are the absolute best and are now dear friends of ours.

So dreamy, right? Wait till you see the reception venue…

A few fave moments…

Groom: The most memorable moment from the day for me was saying our handwritten vows to each other and also when Kaley and I walked into the reception at Mull Cheese Shop and just being completely overwhelmed—it looked even better than I imagined.

Bride: My most memorable moment was pulling off the surprise serenade at the reception. Our best friend (and groomsman), Jordan, plays guitar so at the last minute (I literally called him the night before we left for Scotland) we planned on me singing Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis (but in more of the Ingrid Michaelson style) while he played guitar. Since not all of our guests know the song, I had one of my bridesmaids pass out lyrics and she told them to chime in after the first verse. It was incredible and it was the first time I had sung in front of him.

Aren’t these personalized pebbles so sweet as favors in a nature-inspired wedding?

Last but not least, we love our bride’s advice for you all…
Hire a planner! Stay true to yourselves. This is a celebration of the two of you—of your love, your connection and this season of your lives—don’t do it for anyone else. As a photographer, my advice would be to prioritize your vendors, have a first look and if you are struggling with wanting to elope but not wanting to disappoint your family, do both! Have a secret (or not so secret) elopement and come back and celebrate with a wedding or celebration with friends and family. There is no wrong way to have a wedding. Last but not least, go away together—have that dream honeymoon. That’s one thing we made sure to save up for and it was an amazing adventure. If you can’t afford it at the time, just have a small weekend getaway somewhere romantic or sentimental for the two of you.

Cheers to Kaley and Ben!
