Rustic Boho DIY Wedding

There’s tons to love about bohemian weddings, right? Our bride Emily’s reasons for opting for a boho design totally explains why they’re so lovely: they embrace nature, they give off carefree vibes, and they’re all about mixing old + new and throwing tradition to the wind. She also loves romance, lace, moody colors, and metallics, so for her + Bryn’s big day they incorporated a few different styles and tons of super impressive DIYs. TONS. Take a look at all the shots by XO Azuree Photography below…

Did we mention that Emily’s a fiber artist + display coordinator at Anthro? So it’s not too surprising that the DIY list was this incredible: Hand crocheted lace ceremony backdrop, reception hanging, macramé plant hangers + twine candle holders, hand knitted ties, wood burned tie boxes and bottle openers, hand lettered totes for the bridesmaids, greenery boutonnières, save the dates + invites, guestbook, and bar signage—all by Emily herself! Then there was the welcome table mantle built by the bride + groom and the lace tambourines made by the bride, groom, and Bryn’s mom.

We visited our venue several times before our wedding, touring each of the handcrafted cabins on the property where our guests would stay. It was so wonderful to have a couple of days before the wedding to spend quality time with our friends and family. The hustle and bustle of the wedding day just doesn’t seem like enough time to see the people you love so much and want to make memories with. We celebrated our rehearsal dinner in the cabin my mother-in-law rented on the site of the venue, and had a wonderful time hanging out in the relaxed environment that all of the cabins had. A lot of our guests told us that it had felt like a mini vacation for them. It was certainly a nice retreat from the chaos of everyday.

Emily also surprised Bryn with a cover of a Jill Andrews song accompanied by two of their close friends on mandolin and ukulele. Sooo sweet!

Yeah, we’d say E’s got the macrame thing on lock!

Another element that influenced our bohemian wedding style, was hanging and draping florals. I loved the unconventionality of our floral arrangements. There were greenery waterfalls cascading off the ends of farm tables, centerpieces hanging above the tables in macrame hangers, trickling down the sides of the gold vessels they were in, and garlands of eucalyptus, ferns and ivy draped along our bar and cake table. Everywhere you looked there was a lushness that included both the scenery and the non traditional display of our flowers.
